I recall CPJ saying something along the lines of maybe not getting our full alotment of recruits this year. It is 25 MAX, right?

Having 80+ recruits come to a lot of our home games should help A TON.

What do you guys think? Can we finally get A FULL CLASS?

My guess is no. They had commitments in hand or strong belief in a couple of kids that fell through. I don't see guys filling in for those spots. Probation effects will continue for another year.

I do notice this as a consistent problem every year. I believe in the idea of not taking a player that can't help you, but we need numbers. Is it more of an academic issue that we have trouble getting 25 players a year, where teams like Georgia and Alabama could sign 50 if they really wanted to(and were allowed to by NCAA rules) or is it just a reflection of how we are perceived by many high school kids on the football field?

CPJ said we would be close to the 85 scholarship limit next year, so yes.

Why do we need numbers if we're taking people that can't help us?

I would be surprised to see a full class this year...not b/c of probation or academics, but b/c of the already decommitted and some hesitancy about PJ's offense. But I think we will probably shut everyone up about that after this year and fill up in '10.

I'm not talking about just numbers, I'm talking about quality numbers. The number 25 is an assumption that they are 25 people that can help the team win. I feel we always seems to fall a little short of this quota, which is not necessarily a problem as long as the team continues to win, but I would like people's input on why we do this?

We only have 10 guys graduating this year a class of 22 or 23 will put us at or around the total scholly limit of 85. This is not a matter of not wanting to take 25 it is that we can't.

Also we will only be taking around 10 to 15 kids next year since we will have a small graduating class again. As many of you know alot of our 2 deep are Soph. and Freshman.

and there is a downside to sign guys just for "numbers" - they cost the program money that could be spent elsewhere to help bring in guys that do offer more to the program

we will take about 22-23 and give out 1-2 scholarships to other players currently on the team deserving of a one (Blair, etc).

We have 78 on scholarship now with 15 graduating. That leaves 22 to give as of today for the class of 2009.

However, Scott Blair will be given a scholarship for next year unless something crazy happens...which leaves 21 to give.

Conversely, Yahiaoui is on track to graduate this spring and could leave with one year of eligibility left...which puts us back to 22 to give...but only if he or someone else graduates early or leaves the program.

Here is the next dilemma.

The class of 2010 is supposed to be the deepest in the history of the state of Georgia. Some ranking lists already have as many as 20 of the top 100 in the nation as being from in-state. However, we only have 10 scholarship kids on track to graduate next year....which would only leave 10 openings....one of which will likely go to Connor Shaw.

So...unless someone we get this year is a sure fire contributor...I would not expect us to go all the way to 22 (or 21).

Makes sense. I sure hope there are some DL and OL that are in that group. Plus we may have to replace JD and DT by then.

Regarding Dwyer and B-Back...he will give some time to Anthony Allen who will be a fellow junior next year. You will really like Allen. Look out for Orwin Smith to commit....he could be a great BB...could also play AB. From his video...I love the way he hits the holes extremely quickly and moves well in the hole...which would suit the BB spot. There is also countless athletes we are looking at with size that could end up at BB if not QB like David Sims (yes..we are still in it) and Dontae Aycock.

For Class of 2010 DT's:

We are pushing Denzel McCoy hard from Northview High School in Duluth. He is 6-4, 275 as a junior and runs a 5.0 forty. He already has an offer from us...as well as Penn State, Alabama, North Carolina, etc. etc. He has already come to at least two of our games that I know of.

Another DT that has visited us for a game this year is Shawn Green (6-1, 275, 5.2) of Grayson High School. He does not have an offer yet.
