FSU post-game thread

Also. Let’s talk about building a kicker with #87 on his back. Collins could have shelved him but showed great faith and I promise you that kid doesn’t remember the blocks tonight. That is how you build a program. A little luck, a little faith and a little talent.

Breaking 15-year records
How weird was this Saturday? Georgia Tech started a true freshman QB, Jeff Sims, and he completed 23 passes en route to a stunning 16-13 win over Florida State.

Why is that so strange? The last time a Yellow Jackets QB completed more than 23 passes was all the way back on Sept. 10, 2005. That QB was Reggie Ball, who completed 24 in a win over UNC. Calvin Johnson had more than 100 yards. He was a sophomore then. He has been retired from the NFL for five years.

Sims' debut was hardly a revelation. He struggled early and threw two picks in FSU territory, part of what could've been an ugly night for Georgia Tech that also included 10 penalties and three blocked kicks. Instead, Sims rebounded and so did the Yellow Jackets, who pulled off a shocking road win to start the year and ruin Mike Norvell's debut as the Seminoles' head coach. In the fourth quarter, Sims completed all four of his passes for 49 yards and a touchdown.

FSU has now lost four straight openers with three different head coaches.

Stat of the Game
FSU did not have a single blocked kick during the 2018 or 2019 seasons but had two in the first half against the Yellow Jackets and also had a blocked extra point.

Both blocked field goals were credited to senior defensive tackle Marvin Wilson. Redshirt defensive end Janarius Robinson blocked the extra point.
Stat of the game? Not that a true freshman led the game in rushing and passing?

Where did this Curtis Ryan come from? 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles...in just one half. Great job and effort.
I seem to remember him being mentioned as a hard working player who has really impressed coaches with his increased strength during the off-season.

Mate, this is what we call an epic meltdown. Don't try to make sense of it. Just enjoy the spice level

Last night, FSU said TTYL to their innocence

Paul Johnson was visiting his high school and saw him in the locker room. Ryans played JV until he was a senior and had a growth spurt. Had no recruiting profiles on 247/Rivals. Grades were shaky and looked like a JuCo path, but CPJ told him if he made the grades he’d get a scholly. Kid put in the work, late signee. Pretty easy kid to pull for, IMO.
