Gailey was mediocre and Johnson caught lightning in the bottle twice (once with his own guys) and was mediocre otherwise.
I'd take mediocre and a bottle of lightening over total ineptitude right now.

When do you think the anti-CPJ rhetoric will end... when CGC’s replacement is hired? It’s worse than presidential politics
Paul Johnson was an extremely good coach. He is also a great competitor. Trust me. If there was any doubt in his mind that he could continue to win here using his system he would not have stepped down. Competitive guys built like him never want to end their careers on a losing note, having failed. He was classy and humble. He accepted his success, and he admitted that the end of his road had come. Had he stayed, the scores might have been closer, we might have squeaked an extra one or two wins per year. But the days of being competitive for the ACC championship were over.

First of all, Johnson and O’Leary we’re both great coaches.

Secondly, Gailey > Collins at this point. At least we played defense under Gailey.
At least we won 7 games a year under Gailey.

All but one of the uga teams Gailey faced were top 10. Everyone was top 25.

And they were crushing us. Johnson faced the weakest UGA teams since Ray Goof and lost to most of them. Johnson lost to an unranked UGA team with our most talented roster since 1990.
Granted, 2009 sucked.
But Georgia was pretty damn good -really good - in 2012 and again in 2017 and 2018. That 2018 team was really damn good too.
We probably should have won in 2010 (where we got 3 turnovers and did nothing them and they got points off our first three turnovers), and 2013 (when Richt rolled the dice and went for it on fourth down inside his own 40 midway through the fourth because he was afraid of not getting the ball back and it worked)

FWIW, a large minority of Tech fans hated Gailey during his first season and bascially deserted the program. That is one reason I teach patience. This isn’t the NFL. Collins will be here until the end of year 4 (likely 5) so no reason to go ape this year.

To me losing to 5 loss team led by Joe Cox or whichever garbage qb they had that year with our most talented team since the NC is a lot more embarrassing then our worst team since bill Lewis getting annihilated by their best since herschel

top five most embarrassing uga losses of my lifetime would be 09, 06, 02, 13, 10
Did you forget about 2018? 38 - 7 at the half.

Sure they had three teams that were the quality of 02, 03, 04, 05, and 07 but Johnson also got to face:

09: 8-5, unranked
10: 6-7, unranked
11: 10-4, #20
13: 8-5, unranked
15: 10-3, #24 Richt canned
16: 8-5, unranked

these were all as bad or worse than any uga team CCG faced.

In five wins at Tech, Collins has beaten:
South Florida (finished 4-8)
Miami (finished 6-7)
NC State (finished 4-8)

Gallery also faced some pretty mediocre Clemson teams, while Johnson took over GT at the same time Dabo took over Clemson. It all comes out in the wash.

And BTW, I do think Gailey was an above average coach. He got more crap than he deserved.

In five wins as Tech head coach, Geoff Collins has beaten:
South Florida (finished 4-8)
NC State (finished 4-8)
Miami (finished 6-7)
Florida State (currently 2-4)
Louisville (currently 2-4)

So five wins and none against teams with a winning record or likely to have one.
Yep. Good times.

The argument is if they swapped UGA opponents the records would’ve been swapped.

Gailey was fired because of uga. No one gets fired for losing to Clemson. Not a wash at all. If Johnson doesn’t get that 2008 uga win he probably doesn’t make it to 14. Our fan base wouldn’t have accepted a 6 game losing strea to uga.

even with a 2009 trip to the Orange Bowl?
Our first trip to a major bowl in more than 40 years?
Hmmm.....

No one gets fired for losing to Clemson. Unless you're the South Carolina coach.

Paul Johnson was humble? This is not true. Paul Johnson was a competitor and a winner and had an attitude about it. It was fine when we won and it got old when we didn't.

I worry our 9 game win streak against UGAg will be in jeopardy at this rate
