The Hill used to seem to want to sabotage our recruiting efforts anyway. Haven't been as much if that talk going around lately
 
To me the most likely thing is that CGC miscounted scholarships or something due to the craziness of COVID eligibility or they were unable to get someone who is currently on the team to leave as they expected would happen.

They were well aware of the situation and told Junior for almost a year over and over that he needed to take some classes to get in, but he didn't. Eventually, we had to drop the offer. His HS coach made a big fuss, but he knew the reason and still tried to deflect. We were quite transparent to him well in advance.

Not very much "roster management" went on in those days, especially at GT. Plus, S/A's rarely entered school before fall.

Having integrity within ncaa football would be akin to having integrity within the mafia.

college football has made a mockery of college admissions and higher education for 150 years.

They were. But there are a lot of other examples of successful coaches who treated players like soybeans and were flatly dishonest in their careers. Saban, Tressel, Pete Carroll come to mind. It's to be expected when there's no draft or salary cap leveling the playing field, resulting in coaching salaries ranging from $50k to $8M.

Because we asked him to delay his start to the normal time? I get that it’s not what he planned and that he is disappointed but your reaction is over the top imo.
 
Question that I hope is not redundant. Did our staff contact the young man to ask if he was ok with this beforehand or did we just drop this on him?

Your exact words were “You don’t remember this going on under Coach Johnson” and here is another example of miscommunication of where a SA and his coach was under the impression they were in the clear academically for 11months. How is being told one thing and the complete opposite happens the last minute not analogous?

I do not believe integrity is dictated by circumstances. It is simply sticking to your word and doing the right thing. Just because society changes, right and wrong do not. Again, as I've said, not sure how this went down and who is to blame but it is not a good look.

No. We have a staff dedicated to this and we are getting our 1st pseudo- free agency. The GT fanbase has made it loud and clear that YR 3 is time to win and he’s making the moves necessary for that to happen

Not disputing that. Simply saying that there are men of integrity in the game and I prefer one at GT. Collins may be totally innocent in this situation and I hope that he is. What has transpired though, for whatever reason, does not reflect well.

This. I highly doubt Jamal would compete for playing time this year, even with spring football. The reality is that this isn't the end of the world. Jamal is taking it well, so it seems. Time to move on.

I wouldn't say we are lacking integrity here either. FWIW, all EE spots are ASSUMED to begin with. I highly doubt anybody was told they could definitively enroll early, especially given the circumstances that the NCAA just blanketed everybody with a free year and immediate eligibility with no plan of action for the consequences of that. Every EE candidate was likely told that yes they will be able to as long as there is room. Well, guess what, we ran out of room. I'm sure the coaches took much into consideration when deciding who would not be able to EE. You have factors like, who is the most in need to get in early, who will need the most development, who will need the most in-house S&C, etc. Sure, it's an unfortunate situation and a bummer for the kid who was ready to come in right away.

This is what we wanted when we brought in CGC. You don’t compete based on roster talent without managing personnel. We had an EE who got bumped to summer. It happens. It means we got a more developed player coming in.

We will be fine so long as we deliver once the kid is on campus. Turn him into a pro player an he won’t care about when he started school.
