We're breaking promises and screwing over our recruits now? Sounds like we are well on our way to joining the elite programs.
Went back through the thread and still don't see anyone even pretending to share insight that this is what happened. But since that apparently doesn't matter at all, here's that bangin, lava-like take I promised:
We are now in the ninth year of the Mayan apocalypse and the eighth one really kicked the world's ass. Obviously one of the most horrifying ramifications of it all is that NCAA rules have changed and college football in particular is having some serious strangeness with transfers and scholarship limits. For that and a whole host of other reasons, there are doubtless teams and transfers and signees all over the country whose plans have been disrupted in some fashion. The adjustments made to accommodate the current weirdening are largely going to be determined by the head coach of each program, according to what is ultimately best for the team.
Haynes doesn't appear to be angry over this, but since he is the one most impacted by this situation and he is an 18-year old kid, it would at least be understandable if he were. It's also understandable if that kid's high school coach is upset by the fact that his former player is the one impacted. The ridiculous aspect of this is that head coach choosing to throw a tantrum on social media, potentially creating trouble for the program that same kid is signing with, instead of maintaining at least the same composure and maturity as the teenager he is supposedly angry on the behalf of. It's embarrassing to pretend you've got some kind of power you can wield to prevent circumstances beyond your control happening to affect the kids who play for you, essentially making thinly veiled threats. The decision for where to sign and when is not that coach's to make, and if he's going to influence a recruit's decision on where to go to college, due to a grudge he holds over the audacity of a program to do something which delays the enrollment of "one of
MY players" then he's too concerned with his own precious pride to be wielding that kind of influence over kids and their future.
If it becomes apparent - or remotely evident, which would be an improvement over the current pure speculation - that Collins did something shady or wrong, rather than whatever is best for the team given the relative chaos in the transfer portal and scholarships, I'll edit this post and call him a douchebag instead.
