DeVonta Smith won. First wide receiver since Desmond Howard to win it.

It's good to see someone other than a QB or RB win for a change. I also can't help but think Calvin would've been a unanimous winner if he played on this year's Bama, Clemson, or Florida team.

Yeah I’m a little annoyed about that too. Put this kid on ND and he’s a solid producer and high draft pick. Put him on an offense with 5 other 1st team all Americans against whatever the SEC was trotting out on defense this year and suddenly he’s a Heisman?

Calvin was legit the best player in football playing in a mediocre offense with a couple guys who played in the NFL. Smith is a really good WR playing in an offense with half their 2-deep going to be drafted in the first 3 rounds of their respective drafts.

There is a reason why the Heisman guys don’t pan out so well in the NFL as you point out

2019 Joe Burrow - very good in the NFL
2018 Kyler Murray - very good in the NFL
2017 Baker Mayfield - decent in the NFL
2016 Lamar Jackson - NFL MVP
2015 Derrick Henry - approaching top 10 ever RB status
2014 Marcus Mariota - bust for franchise QB but solid backup (will have a long career)
2013 Jameis Winston - bust for franchise QB but solid backup (will have a long career)
2012 Johnny Manziel - bust
2011 RG3 - bust for franchise QB him but solid backup (will have a long career)
2010 Cam Newton - NFL MVP
2009 Mark Ingrim - great player
2008 Sam Bradford - was very good until injuries killed him... sort of a bust I guess
2007 Tim Tebow - bust as a QB but passed on a great career as a TE/FB... good to have options in life
2006 Troy Smith - bust
2005 Reggie Bush - decent in the NFL but definitely below expectations
2004 Matt Leinert - bust
2003 Jason White - bust
2002 Carson Palmer - solid career
2001 Eric Crouch - bust
2000 Chris Weinke - bust

It looks like we went through a long period of busts until 2013, then every winner at least had a decent career. It looks like the moral of the story is position player winners are actually great players while QBs are getting the benefit of a great team or offense around them.

Jury is still out on the last 3 QBs IMO. I’m not sure any of them will be great 10+ year qbs.

Herbert was the steal of last years draft, not burrow. Kyler is a great fantasy QB, not sure he has longevity though. Baker has been really hit or miss.

Mark Ingram was a bust then had a mid career revival that also coincided with a PED suspension. F The Saints.

1999 - Joe Hamilton - bust

it’ll be a cold day in hell before I recognize that fat ass who also was a bust
I was only 12 so I was even dumber than I am now but I was so sure Joe would work his way up to being an NFL star. During the '99 game against Georgia, Musberger talked about how Joe's idol was Doug Flutie, and he could potentially follow Flutie's path through the CFL and get a shot at the big time. I was sold, convinced he was destined for pro greatness. I wish it had been that way, but in the end I am just grateful I got to watch him achieve greatness at Tech.

I call BS on this post.

How is it possible for you to have been even dumber than you are now?

I thought Tua won one. He’s gonna be a big ol bust.

Also cant put Murray/Burrow in the very good column while RG3 is in the bust column. RG3 had a better start than either of them before getting hurt. Could easily see Murray’s career arc being the same given his running style. And Burrow’s arc already looks the same.

RGIII got hurt badly, but worse than that he played for the Washington Passive Aggressive Rebrands, who did everything imaginable to piledrive his career. He was a superstar in the making, so he can be an unknown or marked as panning out, but decidedly not a bust.

He got a ring with Tampa Bay, right?
