I don’t have an opinion on the chances; I do know that Gibbs and Simms both commented on his transfer decision and there is a good chance that Gibbs and Arik know each other.

I expect that is the only reason GT might even have a foot in the door: Gibbs. Maybe Collins can make some magic if he actually gets Arik on campus.
Weve got a lot to sell. We’re in his hometown, he’ll be amongst friends. We have a young, talented QB and an improving offense. We can sell him on building the offense around him. And we can negative recruit the hell out of uga for wasting an already talented TE depth chart this year.

Easy to make the case for playing time at GT - he would get the lions share of TE snaps from day one most likely. He will also probably get more balls thrown his way at GT as well.

UGA is set up better to win games now. GT is still maybe a year or two out from being legitimate coastal contenders but he could help us get there faster. Who knows, he could go to UGA and win the TE battle and at least be on the field there.

Academics, location, proximity to home, earning potential after school, etc all are advantage GT of course

If we get him to come here we would probably have some other prima Donna HS coach lash out at us on twitter. Can’t take that chance.

Stolen from reddit but relevant--

Look at his name. Gilbert=100% nerd name. Arik is the same name as Eric but with an "A" and no "C.". You know who else has A's and no C's? F&*kin nerds, that's who. GT confirmed.
Beautiful, Champ.

Not coming here.
I'd think not. Probably UGAg. I guess Tennessee is a possibility and probably the best case scenario for us, being he's probably not going to come here

Probably should have taken the bet if you were so confident. At least made a buck out of it while you pissed on your own team.
Being realistic and pissing on your team are two very different things. The chances of him coming here were never good. Hopefully in a few years (and many wins) we'll be able to pull some guys like this, but you really thought he was gonna come to our team, as is, from LSU?

I'm an optimist and even I wouldn't even begin to get my hopes up on that one. Getting Gibbs to come here out of hs is one thing. Getting Gilbert to come here from LSU is another.

I get that you're upset that he wasn't all "ra-ra, we've def got a shot, yay-yay," but don't piss on the guy for being realistic. He didn't say anything more than the chances were slim to none - which, unfortunately, was always fact.

We're not quite there yet guys. Optimistic that we'll be there in a few though.

No reason he would come here

He has been a Debbie Downer in multiple threads. Nobody expected us to have much of a shot, but he seemed to revel in that fact while also telling us why the transfers we were actually getting weren't any good.
