Only 9 Senior/RS Seniors

Not much to debate, this is Collins roster in '21. In fact, between the portal and all these guys getting an extra year all the 'roster excuses' should be moot. Everyone should be expecting a bowl game this season.
Plenty of room for debate for one more year. It really depends on whether you count ‘19 as Collins’s guys.

There is also a difference between saying "this is Collin's roster" and "the roster Collin's built is experienced", especially depending on how you want to count the 19 class.

The debate is mainly about the LOS, especially offense. We are still relying on transfers or inexperienced guys.

The "inexperienced" argument gets really weak in the third season. I thought picking up transfers through the portal was a positive.

It's not that weak but it's not overbearing like it was. The transfers have helped but losing last spring to covid has hurt in the experience part. If we have that this year will be a good help in making it less a factor.

When we win 6+ games this season the debate becomes moot.

Picking up transfers from the portal is a positive, its the only reason things haven't been even worse on the o-line.

Season 1: 0 recruits from '19 on the o-line
Season 2: Covid cancelled sping. 1 recruit from '20 starting on the o-line. 1 played for some snaps against NCST.

Where is the experience?

The transfers allowed time to develop the Season 2 recruits other than the one who seems on track to play on Sundays. If we can get a Spring practice the remaining 2020 OL recruits should provide quality depth next season.

So how many seniors will we have, if we don't count walk-ons and transfers? Or doubled-up COVID seniors?

One?

Helluva recruiting job, that Coach Paul Johnson.

Here's the 2017 signing class, guys who are or would be going into their fifth year at Tech:
1. Kaleb Oliver, a 4 star DB (by rivals). A starter now too.
2. Bruce Jordan Swilling. Another rivals 4 star.
3. Tre Swilling. Starter from day one it seems.
4. Gentry Bonds, a 4 star DB who bailed early in the transition .
5. Tobias Oliver. Umm ... we've got to find a place for him on the field. Period.
6. Pressley Harvin III. He's taking his talents to the NFL.
7. Tariq Carpenter. Only a 2 star by rivals but a starter now for multiple seasons.
8. Jordan Mason. He's pretty good.
9. Adonicas Sanders.
10. Zach Quinney. Multiple year stater
11. Mikey Minihan. Contributor and part-time starter.
12. Charlie Clark. Started one game this year and played a little bit. Opted to exit after the season.
13. Jaquan Henderson. Left just before the 20 season. Wasn't he the guy PJ said in his farewell presser might be the fastest guy on the team (a team that had Cottrell, Tobias and Taquon?)
14. Jerry Howard. Leaving as a grad transfer.
15. Jaytlin Askew. Played in eight games last year as a senior.
And then several who also bolted early — TD Roof was gone before the transition and Dameon Williams left too. Also among the guys who left during the current regime are:
Brenton King
Connor Hansen (who was pretty good during the 18 season. He mauled people)
Cortez Alston
Antwan Owens (who recently decided to leave)
Kelton Dawson
Avery Showell (who left this mid season).
Boe Tufele was on that list but got hurt.

We can do class of 16 too, guys who would be going into a free sixth year
1. Brandon Adams. .... gonna get dusty in here.
Aside from that, he was a force on the interior. I really thought he had a chance to play in the NFL. Alas, we will never know.
2. Parker Braun
3. Kenny Cooper
4. Dedrick Mills
5. Jalen Camp
6. Chris Martin (who opted out prior to last season. He has not opted back in and is currently not on the roster)
That's a good sample right there.
Some of the folks in that class — Jordan Woods, a 4 star DE, Emanuel Bridges, a Tennessee flip, and Jay Jones — left early on.

But yeah, let's pin this on PJ. Ok.

Are you trying to argue this is a good list? This group is why we are so bad.

If you count the covid rule very few teams will have many seniors.
The point I tried to make is that if in 2021 we have 9 seniors and say another team has 20 seniors going into 2021, we lose fewer heading in to 2022. Thus, 2022 "should" be the year things take off supposedly. Many other factors come into play before then (injuries, transfers, talent level, coaching, S&C, etc.). Our level of recruiting is improved and CGC seems to use the transfer portal and scholarship number management like his mentor at Alabama. I can't imagine many teams with much fewer seniors than us on a roster of 85 scholarship players.

Don't tell Swampsting. He will give you a long list of wudda cudda All-Stars.

It's the second season for us, because the first class was nonplus.
