I live 4 hours from Pitt and I don't know anyone from Pitt.
But, upon further reflection, I do recall a fairly intense basketball rivalry with Maryland back in the 1980s. There was serious bad blood between our programs over some unkind comments about our program from Lefty Driesel (the MD coach). So I guess its possible - there was zero interaction between fan bases of GT and MD.

North - UNC, NC State, VA, VT, Pitt, Syr, BC
South - Miami, FSU, GT, Clemson, Duke, WF, Louisville
If ND ever joins they go in the North.

When are ya'll going to realize that Miami goes in the North and that is good for the conference. It's where they want to be and it gets the northern half down into Florida for recruiting.

The comment about MD is BS, I interacted with MD fans all the time. TECH had MD's number first and foremost during the early Cremins years and it pissed off Lefty. MD fans are still complaining today about unfair conditions in the ACC even though they do nothing in the Big Ten.

UGA's new three team annuals will be Vandy, USCe, and Auburn/Florida. Mark it down.

GT should get into a Three Team Group of FSU and CU BUT DROP UGA ANNUALLY. UGA will do the same happily when they can't play Ole Miss, MSU, MISSOURI, VANDY and Kentucky every year.

Rivals are great but if you want better football in your conference you have to give teams a chance by evening out the schedules. How could ARK, Ole Miss, and MSU every really get ahead when they play ALA, AUB, A&M (overrated),LSU every year? I was noticing how the SEC was starting to look like a bifurcated conference, BIGS and LITTLES. This will help that and give Vandy, et al a chance to build.

Would be a big fan of breaking the ACC into either North and South, OR break into the “old ACC” and “old Big East.”
I've been advocating this move for a long time.

North(old Big East)..............South(old ACC)
Miami........................................FSU
VT...............................................Virginia
Pitt.............................................GT
BC..............................................Clemson
Louisville.................................UNC
Syracuse..................................NC State
Wake........................................Duke

Permanent rivals listed above. Wake stays in North for balance. If Notre Dame, Maryland or WV joined, they would be placed in the North, and Wake could move to the South.

I like the idea but would switch FSU and Wake to keep the four N.C. schools together. GT permanent rival could be FSU unless Clemson-FSU matched up. We could use your idea and play Pitt. I would not mind Louisville - a nice fall trip to Kentucky every other year would not be bad. The same for BC and trips to Boston.

If we get to the point where we are undefeated vs another undefeated team on our schedule on a regular basis. It will become a rivalry.
