Hopefully clickbate. That would be pretty damning for college football as a whole.

That's a lot of smoke based on one Houston reporter. Going to be a lot of egg on someone's face if this isn't true.

For conjecture, let's just say it's true. The only conference that should feel any pressure to do anything is the Big 12. Houston and BYU would be locked and loaded to at least get back to 10.

There are no good expansion scenarios for the ACC that make any sense beyond Notre Dame, and when they finally have incentive to join a conference their first choice is always going to be the Big Ten.

Had to go digging for this because I thought it was true...If their hand is forced before current contract with ACC ends, they have to join ACC

It is like college sports are actively trying to get me to stop caring.

Can we just go back in time and go back to the 9 team ACC? Not the best league for football, but I enjoyed that a lot more than this 14 team bag of öööö. I can't wait to play this Big East schedule of Pitt, VPISU, BC, and Miami. It just sucks we don't have Syracuse to complete it.

Notre Dame's hand is not forced, in fact their place in the playoff has been cemented in the expansion to 12. They are not joining any conference.

The only way ND's hand would be forced is if BIG and PAC12 stopped playing with them. I don't see that happening.

Maybe ACC expands and divides into North and South conference so we get back to playing just the south teams.

This. I hate our conference schedules and think it’s a big reason that our ticket demand sucks.

Absolutely. When you have so many teams, and so many of them are far away, the only reason to care about the games as a casual fan is if one or both teams are highly ranked, which in the ACC doesn't happen a lot. No one other than hardcore fans really cares about 4-3 GT versus 3-4 BC.

Having a smaller number of teams that play each other every season and are within close geographical distance helps allow other storylines and reasons to care about the games to develop. People care about Clemson/GT every season, even back before Clemson was so good.

I hope it happens. I’d love to watch the series of unintended consequences implode college football.
Makes having 4 power conferences easier. Personally, I would prefer 4 sixteen team conferences with a 4 team champions only playoff. Conference championships become defacto playoff games.

I want to play teams where I can talk öööö to their fans occasionally. That’s what makes it fun. That’s why playing öööö like BC, Syracuse and Wake sucks.
