Defense may better than we think

Duke had the greatest offense ever, so I say we did pretty good.
Give it a damn rest already. Nobody ever said that from our staff. Most posters on here offer pretty good observations of our team and constructive criticisms when needed, praise when deserved. Are you are just determined to not enjoy a victory, especially over Duke, one of our longest played rivals?

Pittsburgh has a really good offense. Big Uglies in the trenches on the OL that can run and pass block. And an NFL QB that can read defenses, quick release, strong arm and excellent accuracy with good string receivers that make yards after the catch. Even good defenses like UGA would struggle against the Pitt offense, unless the refs called holding against Pitt— which they would.
He's also a 6th-year super senior. Next year a lot of top-heavy teams will drop bigly when their 2021 freebie is over. Tech has an average number of super seniors, but only two of them are starting on defense. I think we'll get our turn to benefit from the free year in 2022-2024 when we have key contributors who've started 50 games.

What's vexing is we have three super seniors starting on offense, and all of them are on the offensive line. I find myself hoping for a miracle there in 2022. We'll either find hidden treasure or a nest of roaches, but we're kicking the log over one way or another next year.

I hope Wing Green makes us forget all about one of the OT's. So much potential there to be another Nat Dorsey and head into the NFL. Depends on how much work he puts in and how good our S&C program really is.

It is. It is inconsistent. But that is the hallmark of younger players. It’s going to be really really good 2-3 years from now I think.

You can't seriously have seen the Pitt game and think that our defense is anything better than below-average
One could conclude that if you give up 52 points to a team averaging 52.4 points that your performance was about average.

I’m thinking we have a chance to have a really special season when these guys are all seniors. The super senior thing didn’t effect us, yet.

As always, I think we are just a good DL away from playing solid defense. That requires good athletes that have fully grown and been conditioned in the program. It doesn't surprise me that it's taking awhile to get that going.

I want to share your optimism but what are you basing that on, his size?
