... that CPJ spoke about how we are going to add a new element to our offense by implementing some more run and shoot. The two analysts were saying ,"Oh no ..." and the guy hosting said "Oh no?" and then the analyst said "Oh no for LSU, ...." and went on to talk about how great our offense is and how LSU has a lot to face. One of the analysts talked about how UGA has 2 weeks to prepare and failed miserably against our offense.

I don't know if this run-and-shoot business is old news or not, but I hadn't heard of this yet.

CPJ has mentioned it in 2 different interviews since the ugay game. I dont have links, but one was for AJC and the other on 790zone I think.

It was mentioned a couple of days ago but realistically we don't have that many practices before the bowl game since we just started Sunday and the team will take a break for Christmas. Anything that we can add that is effective is fine by me though.:D

I agree completely with the poster who said we only have a limited number of practices and so it would be difficult to add a totally new aspect to our offense. That doesn't mean we can't add a few plays here and there but I don't think we'll see it as a major component to our offense.

Personally I think CPJ is putting it out there to get it into Les Miles and LSU's heads that there might be something more to prepare for than is on film. Head games!

I don't go to practices, but I'm wondering if we've practiced it some and just have never used it in a game to this point.

CPJ was referring to the "run-n-shoot" type of passing game, some of which they did while he was at Hawaii. He mentioned that we are not good enough yet to run more of his offensive package. In particular, our blocking is not up to par yet.

As the o-line continues to improve and we are passing more, the sound you will hear will be opposing D coordinators pooping in their pants.:laugher:

Doubtful that we have any of that in time for the bowl, but I would expect us to run more passing plays since LSU has had trouble defending the pass this year.

I just hope CPJ unveils his playbook as fast as the players understanding and execution of it will allow it. Hate to have the offense, which was clicking on all cylinders backfire due to implementing a more complex gameplan when the players aren't ready and/or able to grasp and/or execute it.

I remember tons of Gator fans down here blame Urban during losses for outsmarting himself when he enough talent to just line up and play without gimmicks, obviously we don't have the overall talent to run with most teams (LSU included) but we can't “overgimmick” ourselves either.

I'm not worried about us having game-killing gimmicks at all. This is CPJ the coach, not Mark Richt. the motivator.

We've ran some run 'n shoot style pass plays in games. TD pass to Roddy vs VT, wheel route to Roddy for 35 yards vs Clemson. First play against FSU (wheel route to JD). We just have not had time to install and practice the "entire" package. It also has not been a priority because we have trouble pass protecting. CPJ said during spring practice that he would only work with 60% of his playbook in year 1. He said its just too much of a change with fundamentals, footwork, assignments, and reads to install everything in 15 spring practices and 29 summer practices.

I don't think it's a matter of learning new packages, it's a matter of our offensive line getting more time for Nesbitt. Run N' Shoot isn't much different from what we're doing now, other then the throwing part...

Yeah, I'm sure PJ will run stuff in games we can't handle.:eek5:

Given their D line, it would be prudent to have some passing options to fall back on.

Its old news to CPJ - its what he ran in Hawai'i and its in his long-range plans for our offense.

I think he threw it out there for several reasons. It is definitely something to get inside of LSU's head. It only takes a split second of hesitation for a 3-yard gain to turn into a 63-yard gain. A seed of doubt goes a long way to help create that hesitation.

By showing a glimpse of a run-and-shoot dimension to our offense, we will impress a lot of recruits and counter a lot of what other recruiters are saying about us.

And, I think, it makes us look that much scarier going into next season.

I don't think CPJ mentioned it by accident. I don't think he says anything by accident. It was meant for somebody.

we have already run some of the "run and shoot" package this year as it was worked on over spring, summer, and fall. However, we were not that good at it.

Earlier in the year you may remember Roddy Jones catching some long passes when he went vertical down the seam at the left hash. This is part of the "run and shoot" package.

Tha AB's stay in the same base formation.

PJ also mentioned after the UNC game that we had guys running the wrong routes on some of our pass plays. I imagine PJ will simply spend time fixing what's wrong with our current passing game, as opposed to throwing new stuff into it.

RM can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe run and shoot is like option passing, where your receiver chooses his route based on a read.

That's the assumption that I had on it too, only that Josh and the WRs will now need to make the same read on the fly. Number 9 is going to need a much bigger helmet to hold his enormous head when Paul Johnson crams his entire offense in there.

I imagine Johnson is waiting for teams like Virginia Tech, FSU, Miami and UGAg to become familiar with some of our offensive scheme terms so that when we do bring out the Run and Gun, their players don't come equipped to return fire.

Run and Shoot was definitely harder than the K-gun no huddle we ran in Buffalo.

R&S both the Qb and Wr's have to make quick reads depending on hot blitz's. This occurs mostly on the 5 and 7 step drop. 3 step drops the QB usually knows exactly where the ball is going.

Great--I want to see Nesbit's arm a little more--and a little more "on the money" passes.

I wont be surprised if we don't come out the first drive and pass 90% of the time... then for the rest of the game have less than 5 throws total.
