normally wouldn't do this right now, but on tigerdroppings i saw a post where an ole miss fan predicted the sec and had ole miss to win the sec next year and got ANNIHILATED for it. so it got me thinkin', because i can't sit still i'm soo excited to see us play again, am i drinkin' the kool-aid like that ole miss fan or do i have a leg to stand on with my EARLY acc predication? i'd be particularly interested in what foreigners who might me lurking think.

Berry,
I think (and hope) that you have Coastal pegged about right. Atlantic, meh?

I've heard that NC State will supposedly be better next year, but I've not been able to grasp "why". And while I mean this TIC, I just don't see them passing WF or Clemson. I'd take the last four on the list and flip 'em, so it looks like this:

ATLANTIC
Florida St.
Boston College
Wake Forest
Clemson
Maryland
N. Carolina St.

But in all honesty, I really don't pay much attention to what these teams do other than major coaching/program changes. So who knows?

NC State is a good football team now that they have a capable QB. Granted, he could end up being their Reggie Ball

I like State as the #2 team in the Atlantic next year except for one problem: their ACC road games are other three best Atlantic teams, and VT.

But their team looks good. The Pack return the second most starters in the Atlantic, and one of them is the first-team all-ACC QB as a freshman.

BC returns the same number of starters but their losses will hurt them a lot -- their starting QB and the league's best interior defensive front.

Wake returns nearly all of their offense but only 3 defensive starters. Trouble is, their offense wasn't very good.

Clemson is an enigma. Good returning talent, but they return the least experience in the ACC by far in 2009. The coaching staff is a total unknown. I am thinking they'll struggle and would pick them towards the lower-middle of the Atlantic with 6-7 wins. But it wouldn't shock me if they went 3-9 or 9-3.

The ACC is going to be very tough the next two years:

Coastal:
Tied:
GT, UNC, VPI, Miami
UVA
Duke

Atlantic:
FSU
NCS
BC
MD
Clemson
Wake

The Coastal will be loaded the next couple of years. Look out!

mid,
i disagree with miami, as long as they have Nix as OC, i don't see anyway they keep pace with us, vpi, and even unc. but who knows. yeah the whole conference is a crap shoot especially after this year, but i geniunely feel like we'll be in the top 3 in the conference next year and have the best chance of winning it based on success this year, players returning and CPJ's track record of improvement from year 1 to 2.

The Coastal should be darn tough next year. VPI, Miami, us, and UNC (I think, don't know their depth chart that well), should be very good. Even if Duke isn't improved enough to be a competitor in the race, I don't think they'll be a doormat. I don't know much about UVA, they'll probably do just enough to save Groh's job... again.

Florida State and GT were the best teams this year as well, it just did not work out as it should.

True, but we have to sell to the refs that we are the top dog now. VPI, not unlike UNC/Duke in basketball, gets the calls that we want in the future. We may have already changed that perception; we'll find out.

Tech has a good chance of winning the ACC next year but it will not be easy. Our DL is a big concern to me and the other teams were all very young this year too.

So you missed the last month of the season? With players returning from injury, State has actually been playing good football and dominated UNC in pretty much every phase of the game. They may actually have something next year if they catch a few breaks. I'd put them at 3rd at least.
