Will the sleeping giant now awake ?

it was UM's last timeout and is it unreasonable to think that Nix wanted Shannon to make that call?

I think CG probably made it clear that he was in charge of all timeouts.

The clock management was pathetic but I think Shannon was in a better position to make the call.

I remember Jimmy Johnson with Dallas screwing up the clock (I think it was his second year) and it was a factor in Dallas not making playoffs. From that point on he started wearing the headsets so his assistants could communicate to him.

Also didn't Richt screw up the timeouts in a bowl game w/ BC?

When I was watching it and the FR QB DID NOT RUN OUT OF BOUNDS it was clear a timeout needed to be taken ~41 secs and they let it click down to ~12 secs.

I think it showed Shannon's inexperience but he may learn from it. Lots of successful coaches have screwed this up in the past. Shannon probably needs a VERY experienced OC/assistant coach to help guide him.

at the end of the half they were on there own 40 with a little less than a minute and all 3 time outs and just let the clock run down to 4 seconds and THEN called a timeout....wtf?!!!

call a timeout run a couple of plays to try to pick up some yardage(cause you only need about 30 for a fg attempt) if you get stuffed. fine. run out the clock but at least TRY.

The verdict on Shannon being a good coach or not is not yet in, but it is close. Last year when he hired Nix, I thought his ability to recognize and hire good assistants was obviously poor.

That said, Nix could have put one hell of a spin job on himself and sold himself. Not unheard of.

I give Shannon credit for recognizing after only one season that Nix is in way over his head.

This offseason and next year in my opinion will dictate whether or not Shannon is a good coach.

Nix was there two seasons.

IMO, the thing killing Miami more than anything else is a lack of a revenue base. They want to be at the same level as UF, but Urban Meyer makes over 3 million and Randy Shannon appears to make only around a million.

They have a small season ticket base and, unlike Tech, does not have many big money donors. NFL players tend to burn through money instead of building it like real estate tycoons.

Nix was apparently way down on Shannon's options for OC. I would have to think money was a big part of not getting the best OC there. Maybe a new OC will jump-start the talent next year, but without the money for a good salary I'm not holding my breath.

Didn't Nix call an ill-advised timeout in the UGA game where Reggie threw the ball away on fourth down. If I remember correctly, Nix called the last timeout on the first down of that series, which set up the confusion which led to a hastly fourth down play. I remember Gailey giving Nix a WTF look when he called that timeout.
