I wonder why Sims would wait to hit the portal longer than Yates? I would think Yates would be making his decision based on Sims. If both go, then wow.
I think Yates was always going. Made too much sense for him to. I dunno about Sims

I would think with Sims gone then Yates is the obvious starter. If both go then there's no doubt what these guys are saying is "i don't want to play here".
Agreed. That will be next-level dumpster fire status. I think the same applies to Smith and Griffin in the RB room.

I don't think Sims is in a position to leave. He hasn't shown an ability to step in and be the man at a better school than GT at this point. He has shown flashes of being a great player. He has yet to go a full season without injury and has a TD-INT ratio of 1.25. He could move down a level for guaranteed playing time but there is not upward or lateral movement where he would be the for sure starter. I am sure though that Sims sees himself as better than going to a non-P5 school, as he should. Add to that the number of games he has been injured; I just don't see it.

Yates makes sense to transfer though. He obviously isn't seen as the guy here, just a serviceable back-up. Going into next year he probably looks to be behind Peery and maybe even Pyron. He can graduate with a GT degree and move on to a lower division school and be the guy for a couple of years and get a master’s degree.

I really don't think losing Sims would crash the offense next season. He is still mistake prone and injury prone. A new QB fit might be waiting in the wings.
Agreed. The OLine is priority #1. We get that stabilized next year (I’m not holding my breath) and we’ll get QB’s and RB’s to come. We are basically on a 5 plus year plan so all that matters is limping thru the lame duck year and then hope the next staff can fix the OLine and build from there. I still believe the portal is a net plus for a school like GT. Sure, in a dumpster fire environment we lose a Gibbs type. But once 2023 gets here and we stabilize the program we’ll get in more guys that can help than lose guys that will hurt.

And I like both Peery and Pyron. Both guys were brought up in the spread, pass first, offense so I think we are fine at QB. And if the new OC can get Sims up to speed then we’ll be fine. But the OLine has to get fixed.

With Peery coming off a redshirt year Yates wasn’t a shoe in for playing time IMO and he’s never going to be QB1 over Sims. Why in the world would Sims leave? He’s the starting QB for a power 5 team. He would be nuts to leave. If we get the OC hire correct, Sims could be looking at a big year. If for some crazy reason he leaves let’s open the portal checkbook and bring in Gabriel. I’m really hoping Sims takes a big step forward next year. He has the raw talent to make us a very strong offensive football team.

I do not agree at all. Take a look at P5 game splits with Sims in vs out.

On a microcosm you could juxtapose just the UNC game splits for apples to apples. Here's a quote from the UNC Defensive Coordinator after our game:

“I think Sims is a really good player. I think Jordan Yates is a really good player,” Bateman said. “They ran the same plays.”

Mack said he thought Sims was the difference in the game and I think most people would agree. Now, you could argue that he did dodge the three toughest defenses this year. I'm not saying he could have come in and did to them what he did to UNC. But even Mack Brown wondered what Sims could have done vs Clemson.

So yes, I disagree. I think keeping Sims is the most important thing right now. I appreciate what Yates has done for the program.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Peery in the portal either
