Is sure kicking ass and taking names in the bowls.

Ole Miss is handing it to Texas Tech right now. Makes me think that FLA has an even better chance than I thought against OK.

Players matter, and the SEC simply has better ones than we do. LSU, Bama and even Ole Miss have recruited the biggest and meanest guys in the south. Orgeron sucked but he brought in 3 straight top 15 classes. LSU has been top ten for the past 5 years. And look at Bama now.

Rankings
2004 - LSU #2 (Herman Johnson entered at 6'6" and 360 lbs)
2005 - LSU #19 (Only 13 recruits, but included Perilloux)
2006 - LSU #7
2007 - LSU #5 (we'd pop the champagne for just one of their top 10 recruits featuring the #1 S, #1 WR, #4 DT, #6 WR, #7 WR, #8 CB, #8 S, #10 OL, #13 CB ...)
2008 - Bama #1 (Saban 1st class), LSU #7 (#1 CB Patrick Petersen who shut down Thomas).

2007 was our only top 25 class.

FYI, LSU has the #4 class this year too.

Guys like Michael Oher, Terrance Cody, Herman Johnson and RJF are difference makers.

The SEC generally plays well in big games under pressure. This is where all those big stadiums with hordes of drunk, maniac fans helps out. They really do excel in bowl season usually, where others do not.

Let's face it: Vandy is not better than BC. Vandy lost to both Dook and WFU this year. LSU is not 35 points better than GA Tech. Ole Miss is not 14 points better than TX Tech. But all those teams played better than their opponent in the big game.

Well, except for South Carolina who got blown out by Iowa. They just didn't show up for the game....

The SEC does not have better players. They have better coaches. This is proven by looking at which conferences contribute players to the draft. The SEC, according to national championships and so forth, should be contributing the most players to the NFL each of the past 5+ years, but that is not the case. They succeed because they have better coaching.

Im sitting here watching Espnu and Phil Fulmer is on with Mark May...Clemson made a huge mistake not taking Fulmer.

I.M.H.O. With, Maryland, UVA, Miami and Clemson poor coaching is pulling the ACC down.

You have a great point.

2 Points. The SEC plays better in bowls...

for exactly the same reason ACC teams do well in the NCAA BB tournament....it is continual competition, week in and week out against superior athletes and coaches. When your weak teams are teams like Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky etc. you are a strong conference.

I also find it difficult to ignore on the field results when comparing teams. Much better indicator than the "comparitive results" method. The reason that OM, LSU and Vandy won was because these bowl games were easier for them than their weekly meat grinder schedule in the SEC plus their athletes were rested and at 100% capability for the most part. Until the ACC improves its bowl performance we will always be perceived as second tier.
