Yea. They did embarrass me. THey played like absolute **** all night. Just because we got our asses kicked rather than losing a close one doesn't make it ok.

Sometimes if you talk smack you have come back and get yours. Part of being a fan of ANY team. Personally I like MY team to win just because I like to win not because I want to talk smack to anyone. On the other hand, when we lose I am unhappy because MY TEAM LOST, not because I am a afraid of what some big, bad LSU fan might say to me that might hurt my "feewings". Or scared that some UGAG fans behind the counter might make some snide remark. But whatever. Sorry your cooter is sore though. I am sure there are a few salves, creams and balms out there to help.
 
The day CPJ stops learning will also be the day GT needs to look for a new coach. Even the best coach in the world will strive for and keep learning more about his trade.
 
Just my two cents on the "free pass" thing: in this case, to me it means you forget about the game and think he deserves no real criticism for it. For example, I would give him a free pass on the Gardner Webb game, because a) we won, b) our third string qb was playing and he really can't run the system and c) it was the first half of his first season at Tech. I really don't think the Gardner Webb game was indicative of anything in the bigger picture. I would have given him a free pass if we lost a relatively competitive game at Georgia because they are a lot more talented than us, (used to) hold a mental advantage over our team because of events prior to PJ getting here, and we were playing in a hostile environment.

I don't give him a free pass for this. Getting beat is one thing. Getting completely embarrassed and looking like you have no idea what you are doing is another. Be it the way they practiced, the layoff, the type of salt they used at breakfast, or an interruption of their daily yoga flexibility classes, the team was just not ready to play. That's his responsibility, and I don't think there are any excuses.

I won't be thinking about the G-W game next year when we play our D1AA team...but I know I(and all of you) will definitely be thinking about this before our next bowl game. And that's why I won't give him a free pass for this.

Yeah sure, CPJ is still learning. Here's some things I think he learnt:

A) When playing last year's National Champion or a team of similar talent in a bowl game you need to have an offensive line that was recruited specifically for your type of offense.

B) Les Miles is a classless tool, he HAS to live in Louisiana, which is only fitting.

C) Young teams can get in trouble early when they: 1)kick off out of bounds, 2) get a roughing the passer call on what would have been an 8 yard loss, 3) drop a pass that would have been a quick 6 points, 4) fumble a punt, 5) get a handful of bad breaks in the first half, and 7) gamble on a 'make or break' fake punt that 'breaks' rather than 'makes' the game.

If CPJ can fix these three things we should be ok. As fans we should have learnt:

A) Getting 9 wins in the ACC this year wasn't all that

B) Sometimes a $2.3M coach can get beat by a coach paid $3.75M (for those of you who want to bring up the new contract $$) http://www.wwltv.com/sports/lsu/stories/wwl031408jbmiles.542045b6.html

C) All that potential we saw earlier for the next couple of years did not turn into a pumpkin because we lost one game.

D) 38-3 is different than 51-7 in that the team did not quit.

I know you are relatively new to the whole being a GT fan thing. Part of being a GT fan is the tremendous highs and lows. That may change going forward, but if you look back on the past 50 years, we have expreienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We went from almost dropping football altogether to winning a National Championship, this in a span of less than 10 years.

No one here likes losing. We just have an extreme fortitude that comes with being a die hard Tech fan and that may come across as being complacent, but I promise you, it is not.

I expect people to be upset, but I also expect people to understand why things happen. It's like a child who misbehaves... the kid screws up, and you get mad at him for it, but do you stop loving him? Do you give up on him?

I think you are wrong about that if reference is to some here.

Some like to say, "I don't "sugar-coat" anything" to defend themselves (usually after putting a foot in the mouth.)

A very wise man told me that the reason he learned to sugar-coat his words was that too often he had to eat those words later.

It is okay to be upset over a loss. But don't be upset because you let your mouth write a check and expected someone else to cash it for you. It is never a good idea to talk trash about a team before you play them.

Well, I think it is clear he was outcoached for this game. Yet, I wouldn't trade coaches with LSU, (or UGA, or VT.) Nor would I trade our year for LSU's year overall. (Les Miles didn't coach a good season or he would have solved his QB and defense problems before the bowl game.)

I don't know about others, but that's what I mean by giving him a "pass." He outperformed all expectations for this season by quite a lot. He underperformed expectations for a couple of games in the season.
 
Notice I didn't say anything one way or the other about Johnson getting outcoached. My point to the OP was you can't start the "he was outcoached" discussion and then be surprised when the arguments and name calling gets started.

By that I assume you mean that if Les Miles had our players and Paul Johnson had the LSU players that Miles still would have won handily. I'm not as confident that is the case, I don't hold Les Miles in that high a regard.
 
We weren't outcoached (aside from the fake punt and sweep on 4th and 1) we were out-athleted (yea I made it up).
 
I don't think CPJ is still learning at this stage. This was his 12th year as a head coach. He led Navy to five bowl games, coached in four of them, and went 14-3 in the playoffs at Georgia Southern, going to three national championship games.
Learning?
Now, he did say he was outcoached (which is manning up, if you ask me, because Les Miles is a mental midget. I have some friends who cover the SEC and Miles is laughable).
