I think we all forgot that Coach Johnson is still learning too

In an attempt to bring peace to this board, nobody needs to be kicked off the board or taken out back to have the crap beat out of them. It is obvious that we all hate losing - we just deal with it differently.

Paintballer likes to go nuts and act irrationally while others like to have some perspective on the entire season.

To each his own. As for me, I'm mad we lost. PJ is madder than I am. I promise you that. I happy about the direction we are going in.

By out-coached, I don't just mean the play calling in the game. I refer to practices, drills, and whatever else leading up to bowl that are the coaches responsibility leading up to the game. I'm more upset with how we looked completely unprepared and how much more LSU was locked-in than we were. Miles, as the results indicated, did a much better job of preparing his team for the game in the previous weeks.

I thought it was funny too, but it's a pretty good analogy.

After all, parents support children and fans support CPJ.

I would pay a money (sort of like pay-per-view for boxing) to see you read a transcript of your posts from this thread to Paul Johnson, live and in person.

Are you implying that fans do not support PJ?

Pretty sure every dollar I spend on a ticket/concessions/apparel and every dollar that boosters give as a donation goes towards all of the money he is paid.

You're going out of your way to be a smartass to me.

I hope that Wommack learned a lot about defensive game plans from Gary Anderson last night. Utah's defense effort was awesome last night. The Tide offense had no chance last night & it could have been the worst bowl game blowout this year if the Tide defense had not stepped up. We need to send Wommack DVD's of this game.

I'm sick and tired of the CPJ bashing over poor PREP for the bowl--ya'll would have burned DODD in effigy for his PREP--but--wait--HE WON!! In MHO the blame lies with those that WORE the uni's, for some reason they did not play to expectations and there previous caliber of play. Yeah I know "its the coach repon. to see that they are MENTALLY prep."--well I'm sure PJ thought they were--the PLAYERS just did not resond and perform sucessfully. The upside is that PJ will have MANY opportunities to rectify this loss in the futer!

Stop making sense Beefense, we all know it's never the players fault.

I agree. PJ can prepare the team all day long, and that is important in a college coach, but ultimately the players are the ones that have to step on the field, stay focused, and execute. Not saying it's totally the players fault, but people shouldn't be acting like the reason we loss was totally attributed to PJ's game preparation (or lack thereof). Plus, give LSU some credit. They came out and executed. Well. We just laid down, for whatever reason, and let them execute all over us.

Not at all. If you had solid reading comprehension you would understand that I said I would pay good money for YOU to read a transcript of your posts from this thread, live and in person, to Paul Johnson.

I think PJ has all the support in the world. Even the idiot who sat behind me and called for the touchdown play and was upset "when we kept running up the middle" and wondered why "we're handing it off to the running back and not running the triple option" supported PJ. I have no idea how you got what you did out of my post. Explains a lot of your thoughts. I'm glad PJ got the raise. I think it was a good first season. I have no criticisms of PJ but I'd like for you to tell him your criticisms in person. I'd just enjoy seeing his reaction to your dumb comments. I think your criticisms are silly and vacuous. For the record, I agree with nate and refrigeratormover's thoughts on the loss.

I only quoted the ones referencing PJ. Only found one that I would get mad over if someone read it to me.

He's not still learning. He's been doing this a long time.

He does not get a free pass.

I'm sure he would agree with this

He is a coach that is being paid 2+ million dollars each year. He had one month to get ready. We did not even score a touch down.

That deserves no free pass. THIS is settling gentlemen.

How could anyone argue with this? The team was not ready.

So I'm ignorant because I think that showing up completely unprepared and getting embarassed on national TV is enough to make me say I'm not happy at the end of the season?

I'm glad I am me. I'd hate to be someone who thinks a 2.3M dollar coach deserves a free pass for getting the team's asses kicked and bringing them in unprepared.

This one might make him mad. I probably wouldn't have the balls to read this one.

There is a thread on here somewhere where someone said he deserves a free pass for this game because he beat UGA.

That's what i was referring to. If you disagree with me thats fine. Not sure why you're trying so hard to change my opinion.

I'm certain he would agree with me about beating UGA=/=free pass.

I thought it was funny too, but it's a pretty good analogy.

After all, parents support children and fans support CPJ.

Fans DO? Don't they?

We weren't outcoached (aside from the fake punt and sweep on 4th and 1) we were out-athleted (yea I made it up).

He can't help we were out athleted.

So what was it about their game plan that you liked? Since LSU runs a completely different offense than Alabama I'm struggling with understanding what exactly you would like for Wommack to have copied.

I won't give him a free pass...as in I won't pretend the game didn't happen. We came out looking like a team that hadn't seen this strangely shaped object called a football since Thanksgiving weekend.

With that said, all things considered, this was a very good first season for CPJ. We got embarrassed on national TV, but we also crushed Miami on national TV and ended embarrassing losing streaks to F$U and UGAg. We won 9 games. We tied for the best record in the division.

So CPJ doesn't get a "free pass" for this loss, but I don't see any point in harping on it all off-season as if it's of greater importance than the sum of the other twelve games we played. The man is a winner who hates this loss more than all of us put together. I see this as being a rarity in the Paul Johnson era.

I think that Miles outcoached Johnson, in fact Johnson admitted as much in the post game. But no doubt LSU has more talent than we do, a good bit more and it showed.

I do think that the way that Utah put pressure on John Parker Wilson was brilliant, but Bama's vaunted line was a bit worn down due to suspension and injury. I would hope our defense learns some of these stunts and schemes to create more of a rush next year. Our LBs sure can't cover, they might as well blitz a good bit on passing downs.

Also there are tactics to stack the lineman and LBs and use run blitzes to stop getting run over like they did to us in the 1H. I was too high up to see if we did anything different in the 2H, but they only scored 3 points. Anybody notice any defensive adjustments?

don't forget Bama was without its starting left side of the OL from early on in the game and with the backups, Wilson never had time to throw.
Our OL had been patchwork for weeks and LSU's very, very good DL exposed that (Ricky Jean Francois can play. Period.)

I spoke with one of the coaches after the game and he just plainly stated we were overmatched on the OL, He also said there were wholesale changes coming next spring. Look to see 2 to 4 Olinemen gone or on the bench.

As much as I was disappointed I'm over it. Actually can't wait until spring to get started again.

How bout not giving up 42 and 38 pts. a game the last 2 games. That is all that matters.

I'm not worried about our Oline longterm. Your friend Sewack will get the Oline corrected as he has a track record, I am concerned about our DC though. He had talent on Defense this year contrary to what the couple of posters that are making excuses would have us believe. Sewack had very little to work with on the Oline and that is changing next year. Mcrae, Smith and Uzzi will be a big boost for our Oline next year.

Mover, even from my crappy seats in the club level of the corner of the endzone, I could see our OL was getting blown up.
Question: Can we overhaul the OL and expect success in 2009, or are we looking more for 2010 and beyond?

We had talent and depth on the DL (perhaps as lack of size), a fantastic safety, and half a season of a cover corner. The other half of our defense was either young or average or both.

We ended up 5th in total defense in the ACC, which is about the same as we were with Tenuta. I don't think this DC is going to be another Bud Foster; but I don't think he is going to ruin us either.
