Jagodzinski: Fired from BC?

According to ESPN and other sources, Jeff Jagodzinski will be fired from BC if he goes through with his scheduled interview with the Jets today. OC Steve Logan would then be promoted to head coach.

Another board I read (a Boston sports one), has said that WHDH Boston has reported that Jags has already been fired. I've also read, without sources, that Jags may not have gotten permission from BC to interview and that's at the center of the problem.

Whatever the case, this is looking crazy and will almost certainly be a big blow to the BC program.

I thought that O'Brien leaving would hose BC, but Jagodzinski stepped in there and got them rolling. That said, I can't imagine they'd be two for two. This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen a school do. I wonder if there's not something else going on.

Why in the hell would they fire him??

If he is interviewing somewhere else, is he not hurting the BC program? Recruits would never know if he was staying or looking from now on. I wish we had fired Gailey for the same thing. Tough call though.

I just heard about this on the radio, and I think it is crazy. It's not like he is going to interview at Northwestern or something, it's the friggin Jets. Let him go have his interview and then let him come back. He, more than likely, won't get the job anyway.

think about it like this... if you went to interview at another company, would you want to instantly be fired for that? it's the same thing... it's his job and they're his employerer...

As long as he handles it well, like Gailey did when he interviewed with the Dolphins, BC should be fine. Firing him would be asinine. No company would fire their CFO if he interviewed with another company to be CEO.

BC to the NY Jets isn't just interviewing with another company. It's more like the CEO of Carpets of Dalton interviewing to be the CEO of Chrysler. It is a major step up.

The only thing I can figure is that the Boston sports market hate the Jets so much, that a coach flirting with them would actually hurt BC's attendance.

Exactly. If firing a person for trying to move up in their profession becomes an acceptable practice, then how in the world is anyone ever supposed to move up? Basically if you interview and don't get the better job, you're screwed because then you don't have a job at all.

Asanine was the exact word I was going to use to describe it.

well, if the CFO didnt meet with the key people and advise them of what was going on, he might be fired.

this is apparently the issue, as i read it

Steve Logan is a great offensive coach, a really funny personality guy, and did a good job at ECU until the last season and conflict with the AD. I wonder if having a "coach in waiting" they like is part of the reason they are willing to part with Jagodinski.

Handled it well? I think he was open and honest about it. But it hosed us somewhat and strung us our for a few weeks while they made up their mind. I was a FOC until then.

The Bill Lewis era at Tech likely would have been more successful and lasted longer if Logan had come with him from ECU.

Very bad thought...

If Jags is indeed fired, and Logan doesn't get the HC job, then he may end up at Miami. Can you imagine Steve Logan running offense with Miami's talent?

Very, very bad idea.

Sad situation up at BC. The administration is pathetic there.

They want someone who is extremely loyal to BC, I think Spaz could get the job. They don't like change and want someone who will be there for a while.

you sure about that example?

Carpets of Dalton will probably exist longer

I was a pretty vocal supporter of Chan while he was the coach here at GT (though I was ready for him to be replaced when DRad pulled the trigger and was happy with the choice of replacement) but I have to agree with the esteemed cyclejacket completely. The fact that it dragged on did hurt us.

If I were the BC AD I would sit down with Jags and give him "limited permission" to talk to the Jets. What I mean by that is I'd tell him he can talk to the Jets but BC needs a decision, one way or the other, within X days from the time he interviews. I think that would be reasonable because if it drags out then it could indeed hurt recruiting and that's not fair to BC. It's one thing to be interested in another job, it is quite another to do something that hurts your current employer WHILE searching for that job, whether it is inadvertent or not.

That would make sense, but I really think the cause of the problem here is Jagodzinski. As I gather from reading various sources, with varying certainty in their accuracy, the situation is this:

- Jags has a clause in his contract that prevents him from interviewing with pro teams without BC's permission for the first three years of the contract.
- Brett Favre, Greatest QB of ALL TIME, His Interceptionness, Emperor of Kiln, Grand Duke of Just Having Fun Out There, likes Jags and wants the Jets to interview him for the HC position. The Jets, being idiots, give Jags a call. The sincerity of their interest is uncertain.
- Jags certainly wants to interview but for whatever reason - maybe he doesn't want to annoy BC, maybe it's the Boston/NY thing - wants to keep it secret.
- BC administration finds out, and are pissed. Jags interviews with Jets, which he better hope goes really well, since it's apparently going to cost him his current job.

Well that information definitely puts a different light on the situation. If he agreed not to interview with any NFL teams for a period of three years and does so then he deserves to have his current job threatened. I don't think the Jets are wrong for calling him as it is Jags's responsibility to politely say "Thank you for calling but I am happy in my current position and am not able to pursue an opportunity to be your head coach."
