He commented on ESPN reporting that Stafford and Moreno were going pro...

he said:

- The window of opportunity just shut in Athens
- If UGA cannot win a national title with Stafford and Moreno, how do they win one without them?
- If UGA cannot beat Georgia Tech with Stafford and Moreno, how do they beat Georgia Tech without them?
- No "blackout", "redout", or "anything else out" can save them next year

...and the clincher from Jim Rome:
- UGA fan just has to hope that they get more wins than players arrested in 2009!!!

Great comments all !!

Wasn't that mathematically impossible this year?

UGAg will be back. It will take them a year to adjust, but they will be back. We forget how many OL/DL they lost to injury this year. They are a very good team, and Cox, AJ Green, King and Samuel will do well for them next yearafter they settle in.

This was mentioned elsewhere, but Tennessee won its national championship the year AFTER Peyton left. I hope Stafford and No Show go pro, but there is still a good stable over in Cow College East.

They had either 11 or 12 arrest this year....not sure which. It seems one player had two charges...that could be the discrepancy.

It was 12 arrests!!

Shame on you!! Check my sig on rivals..;)

As much as I'd like to subscribe to Ewing theory, I think they'll suck next year. Guys like Stafford and Moreno don't come around that often. Since they have good athletes around the MAIN 2 skill positions every year, that's the difference between 7-5 and 12-1. Without those two UGA loses to Kentucky, LSU and possibly Auburn. That's 6-6 with a blowout loss to us.

Beautiful! Maybe if I could hear Rome make more comments like this I wouldn't find him as annoying.

I'd love to believe that UGA is headed into a deep dark era of pain and misery. But it's UGA and they always manage to crawl out from the trailer park and get something. Losing Moreno and Stafford will hurt, but there's always enough inmates around they can find to replace them with.

Arrests Listing

Michael Lemon - Felony aggravated battery and simple battery

ATHENS -- Macon's Michael Lemon, a sophomore defensive end at Georgia, was arrested Thursday on a felony charge stemming from an incident that allegedly left another man with a blowout fracture below his left eye.

Lemon, 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, was charged with felony aggravated battery and simple battery stemming from an incident that took place Saturday during a community pool event at The Exchange apartments in Athens.

Lemon turned himself into the Athens-Clarke County police at 9 a.m. and was then placed under arrest, Athens attorney Ed Tolley said. Lemon was expected to be released shortly on a $6,500 bond, Tolley said.

Justin Anderson & Trinton Sturdivant - simply battery

Sophomore offensive linemen Justin Anderson and Trinton Sturdivant were arrested Monday by Athens-Clarke County Sherriff's deputies and charged with simple battery. Warrants for their arrests were issued after an alleged incident occurred early Friday morning at the East Campus Village dormitory on the UGA campus.

Trina Bailey, 22, of Bogart, gave the Altlanta Journal-Constitution permission to use her name with her account of the events. She said she and a friend were returning to the dorm about 1:30 a.m. Friday after watching a movie at another friend's house when they encountered Anderson and Sturdivant and another unidentified male in a breezeway.

Brandon Wood - DUI

Georgia defensive tackle Brandon Wood will not play against LSU this week after being arrested early Sunday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“He made that mistake, and he’ll pay the price,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said Sunday afternoon. “He certainly won’t be playing in this ball game coming up here.”

Richt said athletics association policy requires a one-game suspension, but the coach was non-committal on whether Wood would be allowed to play against Florida on Nov. 1.

Wood was one of two Georgia football players arrested by University of Georgia police in separate incidents after Saturday’s win over Vanderbilt, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail’s booking report.

Vince Vance - Driving without valid license

Offensive tackle Vince Vance — out for the season with a knee injury — was arrested for not having a valid driver’s license and booked into the jail at 9:29 p.m. Saturday. Vance, 21, was released on a $500 bond about an hour later.

Jeremy Lomax - Weapon without a license

UGA defensive end Jeremy Lomax was charged with weapons possession and speeding shortly after midnight Tuesday. Lomax is the fourth UGA football player to be arrested in the off- season.

Jeff Henson - Public intoxication and urinating in public

Long snapper Jeff Henson, a junior from Gainesville, was arrested for public intoxication and urinating in public. He was booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail at 3:46 a.m. and was released on $750 bond at 10 a.m. Because Henson also was charged with DUI last November — he missed the Sugar Bowl as punishment — he was suspended indefinitely.

Clint Boling - Reckless driving
Fred Munzenmaier - underage consumption of alcohol

Henson was the eighth Georgia football player arrested and jailed in 2008. Two other players will be suspended for games as a result: offensive guard Clint Boling, one game for reckless driving; and fullback Fred Munzenmaier, two games for underage consumption.

Donavon Baldwin - DUI

Safety Baldwin was arrested for DUI and suspended for one game in January. Baldwin was involved and injured in a downtown altercation at the beginning of August. Dismissed from the team.

----- also, arrested, but no longer on the team at that time:

Michael Lemon - public intoxication

Michael Lemon was arrested again, but was already kicked off the team

Danny Ware - public nuisance, public intoxication
Henderson claimed to be flagging a cab, but the officer noted the couple had their backs to the flow of traffic.
The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from both people. Ware took a portable breath alcohol test and blew .152, nearly twice the legal limit. Henderson refused to take a breath alcohol test.
Both were arrested and transported to the Athens-Clarke County Jail. He was released four hours later after posting a $500 bond.
----- also, not arrested, but suspended for at least one game:

Darius Dewberry

Linebacker Darius Dewberry vandalized property at St. Mary's Hospital in August. Was not arrested but admitted guilt to head coach Mark Richt, and served a two-game suspension to open the season.

they've got the #2 ranked qb coming in next year. aaron murray.

but i think joe cox is going to better than people think. there defense is going to have to be better. if it's not martinez is gone.

i still see another 9-3 season for them.

Make no mistake. UGA will be loaded next year, even without Stafford and Moreno. I'm glad we're playing them in Atlanta.

I wasn't that impressed with Aaron Murray in the All American Bowl. For a pro style offense, he sure seemed to have a weak arm and looked more like a runner type than anything to me. Of course, a runner type worries me more than a young throwing type.
