First commit for 2010 prediction...

The AJC article said he wants to commit soon and we are definitely the leader. He's a freaking stud and we could really use him. He could be a starter on day one.

5-star DT Denzel McCoy of Northview High in Duluth, GA.

Boy, here's hoping that that is the case. We are going to be desperately thin coming up at DT (and OL where we possibly could draw from). Wow, 5 star huh? Have we ever received a commit from a 5 star DT?

My guess is he will end up a 4* at best. If he committed to a football factory school he might be 5*.

HA, wouldn't surprise me if that kind of thing was true. Might explain things like Miami and Notre Dame

Yeah, a commit for us would have to be previously rated 5* before committing. An early commitment to GT would probably not be condusive to getting rated 5*. This is not necessarily only an indictment of GT but usually when a guy commits early it has some limiting effects on how much he is scouted and recruited by other schools.

By the way to the original question... I think Denzel McCoy is a good choice. I would also say that Conner Shaw and Anthony Williams are good picks to take the honor of first commit for 2010.

I think this is true, but in fairness I think it is partly because Rivals/Scout wants to sell memberships. If all of the 5 star players are already committed, how many memberships do they sell for the rest of the recruiting season? As a minimum, a ranker has to subconsciously put an uncommitted player ahead of an equal committed player (not to mention that he also will sub or conciously put a big membership program recruit higher.)

Denzel would be our highest rated DT ever...but not much more than Daryl Richard who was a 4-star and rated the #15 DT in the country by Scout. Daryl picked us over Miami, Notre Dame, and LSU.

Denzel already has 20+ offers and from every major school in the eastern half of the US except for UGA (and I think that is because they know we have him). He has offers from Penn State, Miami, LSU, Alabama, FSU, etc. etc.

He wants to major in computer science and stay close to home.

btw...Anthony Williams has a verbal offer from us and will get his written offer on Jan. 31 for Elite Junior Day at GT. He could accept on the spot..we are his only offer thus far. I would not be shocked to have Connor Shaw commit (also offered by Stanford)...or even Ryan Ayers (no offer yet, but will likely get one Jan. 31).

Our top BB target is Charles Perkins of Centennial (coach is a huge Dawg...GT only offer thus far but that will change)...and AB target is Mack Brown (MLK...same school as Joel Kight...already has offers from Louisville, Oregon, Arkansas, Duke).

Sounds good on Denzel but my prediction would have to be CONNOR SHAW.

Why does Connor Shaw have an offer? It's my understanding that we're only going to have 9 or 10 scholarships to give next year, 12-13 at the most. Is he that much better than Jaybo to warrant an offer? I honestly don't know.

Most scouts say he projects to the next level much better than Jaybo did.

I think your total number of scholarships is low for next year. I think the number we are going to start with for next year will be 15-16. I would not be surprised if we sign somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 in February 2010.

Wow, then who's leaving? Right now we don't have many openings.

Regarding connor Shaw, we've taken half his high school, how could we forget him now? From what I understand he is a good athlete, but if we have any carryover success in recruiting for next year, 3 star athletes will be left behind.

He can play numerous positions (ATH). QB, WR, Saftey.
He is also part of the Branch pipeline we have going right now....which would also include future star Imani Cross.

We WILL have some attrition this off season.

My prediction in order:

1. Connor Shaw
2. Denzel McCoy
3. Anthony Williams

...and I do believe that they are ALL GT locks.
