My Guess on the DA situation.

1. DA makes a silent commit and tells our coaches that he is firm.

2. We release another QB that we were interested in since we are full at QB.

3. The other QB commits to Western Kentucky.

4. DA visits another school after we have lost our other QB.

5. CPJ warns him not to go. He goes and CPJ pulls the scholarship offer.:eek5:

Here's my two-cents worth, for what it's worth.

There was a "time" in this country when you gave
somebody your word, you could count on it or as
we use to say, "you can take it to the bank!"

I guess those days are long-gone, with this generation.

Me, I applaud Coach Johnson for holding D.A.
to his committment to us, I think this speaks
volumes about our Head Coach.

I wish the kid well, I hope he enjoys his stay at
Auburn, but me, I think he made a mistake, simply
because he did not keep his word to Georgia Tech.

I think there's more to this than we know. Why would a coach tell a kid not to go enjoy the fruits of his high school success and visit places he's never been before?
And if there is no fall-back player to take, why would you give DA an ultimatum when you find out he's visiting Auburn?

I am no expert on recruiting, but this just doesn't make sense. There's more to the story than what has been reported, and I doubt we'll ever find out the whole truth.

I do know this: I've got confidence that PJ knows what he's doing. He's been recruiting for a long time. I support his decision.

My two cents is that there was an internal battle between Dwight Smith and CPJ. You can read the rest between the lines. But I agree with Buzzlaw that CPJ knows what he's doing. He knows his a$$ is on the line for our player personnel and program.

Well I agree with the other stuff you said except this. True the recruit can go visit other schools and have the great experience, but part of this is learning that there are more consequences than the obvious for ones actions. Yes he can go to Auburn and have a fine time and by doing it a week before signing day make it look like he isn't really committed to Tech that much. Not saying it's true, but at that age you have to learn when doing something for a good time can have negative consequences.

I don't get this silent committment stuff either. If you're in, say it out loud.

If you're not, move on and get out of the way.

FWIW, a friend close to DA said that DA told him that he was probably going to ink with AU about a month ago..

So now I'm starting to believe that he was WANTING and PRAYING for that AU visit. He got it and never looked back.

Bingo! And you know what? We might just applaud this day over the next few years when Bobby Louder, Gene Chizik and Gus Malzahn are getting darts thrown at them by the likes of Charles Barkley and Dwight Smith because Dontae ain't gettin' enough touches.

So can we go steal that guy? Or yall think we're done at 2?

Probably. Sides, might be better to use that scholarship next season, assuming CPJ has a proportional 2nd season to all his previous second seasons ;).

Heh, I hope for his sake NFL recruiters don't care about W-L record, or he'll be in trouble (I know absolutely nothing about NFL recruiting, so don't shank me)

Unless the worst guy we take next year is better than he is, that doesn't really work out. Know what I mean?

The only way this works out in our favor is if Aycock was never going to get playing time anyway.

Good point, but with a still limited 2010 class and if we have a great season next year...heh, I'd say stranger things have happened. As far as the second part goes, that would entirely depend on how Sims and Luallen work out.

If this is true, then we got the most out of this deal as we possibly could. If we knew we weren't going to get him anyway, we gained future recruits knowing that when they give us their word they better mean it. We also saved whatever embarrassment (slight) that would've come from him changing schools on HIS terms.

Playing us for fools all the way. Someone fill me in on the appeals of Auburn? The only advantage I see is the fact they are in the SEC.

He will not have to go off campus to see good looking girls. Thats all I can think of.

The SEC thing is actually a disadvantage for a RB because their defenses are too fast to run against. He will have 0 yards rushing.

Well, before this past year's fiasco, AU was pretty much running back U for the past 5-7 years. They are known for putting some good ones in the league.

You have to be kidding yourself if you wouldnt think about that...

It just seems that DA's bro was in his ear about the $$$$$ way too much. Negative Nancy if you will..
