Yeah, well, if the old system is working for you just fine, only way to go is down. I can see why Saban would desire the status quo. It's been good to him.
 
His comments are pretty common sense. Unregulated NIL won’t be great for college football.

I doubt NIL affects Nick at all, he’s only coaching a few more years anyway, and Bama can play whatever game they need to play to win.

Saban does this every time there is a change. He bitches. They don't change it back. He adapts and moves on. He is not a status quo type of guy.

Oh my goodness!!! Not a level playing field where Bama and Georgia aren’t the only two “college teams” allowed to buy players, while the Notre Dame‘s, Georgia Tech’s and remainder of college football teams are not allowed to buy players because of “NCAA rules.”
 
Come on now. Anyone who believes Saban cares about anything other than his team and what makes his team the best is crazy. And keep in mind I like Saban. He is a great coach. But he also knows he has the best money laundering system that exists in college football so NIL hurts his operation because it makes it moot. So, of course he’s going to complain. And, like Coach K, people eat it up because he is wrapped in the media cloak of untouchable and gets media reporting on everything.

Y’all know I have no problem with NIL because it’s just the latest iteration of a 50 year trend of advantages teams could use. Teams will adapt or drop. GT is a perfect case study of a program that went from a top 10 program to a bottom feeder over a 30 year period because we didn’t play the game. And teams like Clemson went from an afterthought to a top 10 program by playing the game. It is what it is.
 
I think he’s at the point in life where he sees how he and the $EC have ruined CFB. Too late to put the genie back in the bottle. But basically Saban cares about Saban.

The SEC did not ruin college football. That’s where everyone is wrong and putting their mental hatred towards the wrong group. The NCAA is the culprit and has been for 50 years. If they had actually done their enforcement of the rules job college sports would be in a better place. Instead, the NCAA allowed the bowl game committees to buy them off with trips and gifts. Then the schools saw how easily the NCAA was corrupted that they began the same thing which led us to where we are. Sure, the SEC played the game the best but I have no problem with it. Clemson figured it out. I just wish GT had for those old guys who will never see us competitive again.

What do you place the odds on you young guys seeing GT competitive on the football field again?

This here. He and Dabo only care other teams receiving a competitive advantage that would lessen their title chances

It all depends on what the school and alum decide. GT has the money to buy players now. They just choose not to change the rules so they could. The alum could get together and buy players. That’s where my hope is. That a few rich alum come together to create an entity to raise money to buy players - in all sports. I’m not saying it is going to happen but at least now we know the clear path. That’s why I don’t mind NIL. The path is now known to success. The past 40 years was just a sham with schools like GT so called “playing by the rules” while many others bought players under the table. It just infuriates me. The NCAA can’t die fast enough.
 
This reminds me of when he wanted the NCAA to ban hurry up offenses because he couldn’t defend them at the time (c. 2014).

The fact of the matter is that Nick Saban cares about three things:

1. Nick Saban
2. Winning
3. His paychecks from winning

He doesn’t care about the integrity or the future of the sport. This is the same guy that grayshirts and oversigns kids ad nauseam to gain a competitive advantage. He has no room to talk.
 
There’s a huge problem with y’all thinking the current system is just fine. There is no draft. There is no way to enforce some amount of equity for all in the process.

Bama could sign the top 25 players each year and leave the rest to be divided up by everyone else. If you want it like the pros, then you have to allow for something like a draft.

College football where every player goes to the highest bidder has no appeal to a lot of us. The school really has nothing do with it at that point. It's just a lower level pro league, and I don't give two fucks about some high schooler who only comes to Tech for a paycheck and the opportunity to move to another team.

What disappoints me is the fact that TAMU "aint bama/uga" so for a lot of folks here, its a "non-blue blood" crashing the party so its okay. Sorry guys, but I'm calling BS on labelling TAMU as an "outsider." If you havent noticed, they have billion dollar new stadium (the house that Johnny built), the best facilities in the land, and some elite and talented players. They are one of the top 5 riches programs in the land. They just beat Bama and have beaten Bama more times than another team in the SEC other than Auburn. I'm sorry folks, this is not an "outsider" in CFB. The only thing that makes them an outsider is they havent made the CFP. Thats like saying Michigan was an outsider crashing the party last year.

TAMU can buy anything they want. The only thing limiting them was the rules that made playing payers a clandestine action. Now thats its out in the open, you see the true nature of that program. Everything you hate about Bama/UGA should be the same reasons you hate TAMU.
