Rashad reid or Mario butler. Assuming JT is good as before he will start. IMO I like reid. It may just be because of the FSU game. But who ya got?

Butler did really well I think. They both are pretty solid though. Its a real toss up, but honestly, I think its a good idea to rotate CB's and with as much nickle as we play now days, I would expect reir, butler, and tarrant get equal time.

I don't see either losing their spot. I think they could rotate and Jerrard will certainly help out, but I wouldn't expect him to replace a starter unless one shows real signs of struggling.

I think "starting" is just another word for Paul, they are trying to find the best players that they will be able to rotate. This as you know is a tremendously hard offense and especially will need 8 or 9 lineman that can play. Whoever plays the best may be rewarded with a start next week.

I think that with the way injuries crop up we'll be needing all three of them a bunch.

Amen. There is another thread about who will start at DE. Peters may not start at DE, or at DT, but he may get more snaps playing third guy at both positions than some of the starters.

If Butler doesn't lose his starting role then we're in trouble.

While I don't agree 100%(Butler might show improvement), I think I agree with your point. We HAVE to get better at covering man-to-man. Good teams will pick us apart with slant routes, etc if we don't. I hope Tarrant really shows something.

Reid did seem to do better jumping slant routes (although we got killed on them usually) as the year went on. He played well for a T-FR.

Reid is the kid I'm so excited about. For him to play as well as he did as a True Frosh, imagine him in 2-3 years.

Yeah of the ones in that area who will lose a starting job, I don't think it would be Taylor or Reid, cause they played pretty darn solid for true freshmen and they get a full spring practice this time around.

Some guy over on another site was trying to say that Taylor was terrible as a freshmen and if he is all we have at the position, that we are screwed.

Blows my mind. I tried to remind the guy that Taylor was TRUE FRESHMAN but its like people don't get it. They basically expect these kids to play like 5th year senior All-Americans or something.

For one thing, that guy might of just been bitter because of the helmet-to-helmet thing from the VT game (on Cooper Taylor). Personally I don't blame him [Taylor] cause that call was controversial and it was, at best, the guys 3rd time playing anyway. Plus he probably doesn't understand that Taylor didn't get full time conditioning had only 3 months of practice before season started.

Edit: also just realized that the hit was Taylor on Taylor HAH :D

A well executed quick slant is about the hardest route to defend. If you jump it, you risk a pump fake on a look and go that will burn you forever deep. If you don't play tight, it goes underneath you all day long. The only way to beat a 3-step drop and an quick slant is to play bump. We haven't done that well in years due to the Tenuta Plan. Maybe some of the newer guys who weren't schooled in that "technique" of laying off WR's can make the play for us.

In my opinion Reid is infinitely better at the CB position and had much more potential.

Yeah, the thing most people don't remember is how young all these guys are. Normally kids don't play this much this early in their careers. However, just because they're young doesn't guarantee they'll get better. They need to keep working hard to improve.

Agreed.

Butler is frustrating. He's quick, sure, but he's really short and has a hard time tackling and being physical with receivers.

Butler is 6'1" Reid is only 5'10"

Now, if you are saying he plays short, then I agree :p

That reminds me of a season preview I saw back in the 70's when I was following the Southwest Conference. Somebody wrote that Rice had 18 starters back, but then he added, "Well, they're Rice starters."

I don't think the guys in question are like that but some people get as good as they are going to get early.
