So apparently when we first started singing the budweiser song in 1970, it may have went like "When you say Bud Carson, you said it all!"

(our head coach at the time)

any verification from the old-timers on board?

Now that we have Bud Peterson as president, how about going "When you say Bud Peterson, you said it all!" Even though it's premature at this point of his presidency :ugh:

I'm not an old-timer, but I believe I've heard an old-timer verify that before.

I like the "Bud Peterson" idea, but that extra syllable makes it a little awkward.

Speaking of GT traditions, does anyone know when the "get naked" was added to the end of "fight, win, drink, get naked!"? I thought for some reason that it came about while I was at GT (97-02), but it was probably done before that...any help?

I'm not sure, but it's actually "drink, get naked!" that got added. The original(and official) is just "fight, win!" If you watch the cheerleaders, that's still all they say.

I knew those were both not part of the orginal--I just assumed that "drink" was added before "get naked".

Was there and if it happened it certainly wasn't the default. It might have been isolated. We often chanted, "score defense score" in the Dud Carson days.

I wish the higher ups of the band would understand that the Drink, Get Naked part should be dropped. The Band is a representative of the school and when they say that in front of little kids, it just doesn't go over well.

Actually, we only say "Fight! Win!" If there is anyone saying the rest, it's of their own accord, and not the band allowing it.

should we also drop 'to hell with georgia' ? We don't want kids hearing that either?

we should also change "drink my whiskey clear" to "drink my beverage without additives" in order to become more 'kids friendly' and not promote drinking

"barrel of rum" could be altered to "barrel of sugary carbonated beverage"

When I first learned it when I was around 3 or 4, my parents taught me "drink my rootbeer clear".
No, but honestly, it doesn't need to change. It's not like the song is strictly focused on drinking, and kids are probably being exposed to much worse stuff elsewhere.

They actually already tried stuff like this with the fight song. The outcry from alumni was immediate and it was completely quashed. It was actually pretty hilarious, I posted the link here before but don't have it offhand at work. I'll look for it when I get back home.

was it the one to make the song less sexist?

Maybe we should wait and see if we even like the guy and the job performance before we immortalize him in something as sacred as the Budweiser song.

maybe if we did 'barrel of coke', we can get a sponsorship deal.

Yeah, either from The Coca-Cola Company or from the Mexican drug cartel

All the players could wear the number "13" and put the letter "M" in place of their name to promote M13
