Chicago Gets Cutler

Two first round picks, a third round pick, and a QB that can play at least a year seems like a pretty even deal for a pro bowl QB who doesn't want to play in Denver anymore.
I don't think the Broncos shopping around for a QB in the first place was a good idea but they made the most of a bad situation with a good trade.
 
The Bears are screwed!

All that got is a self serving cry baby that has a 23 win and 30 loss record as a starter in the NFL. If they are looking to this dude to come in and be a leader they will find out real quick that they got the wrong man.

I think the Broncos will trade up and take Sanchez or Stafford with the picks the Bears gave them. They could get Jeff Garcia to play QB next year on an interim basis while the new QB develops and be no worse or better than they were in 2008.

I think this will go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history.

I'd bet you if there was a way for either of us to pay off. I don't think the Bronco's problems were on the offensive side of the ball...no one can win with the defense they have. I think Chicago will improve immediately. The question is whether Denver can do anything with their picks to improve their situation.

We'll see. The Broncos got a lot for him, and I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss McDaniels's ability to evaluate quarterback talent. He has a fantastic, if very short, track record. Like Jerry the Jacket, I'm not so sure this whole thing was a bad move for the Broncos, despite the negative media attention.
 
Cutler was right at first, but then took it way too far. He looks like an idiot now. That cushy lifestyle he knew in Denver is out the window in Chicago. For what they gave up, those fans will want immediate results.
 
To be honest, the bears are now a decent WR (Nicks?) and a few pieces on the defense away from making some noise in the NFC.

As far as who's fault this whole mess was, I agree with the notion that both sides were to blame. McDaniels was a dumbass for coming in to Denver and even entertaining the thought of trading away Cutler. If you're supposed to be that good that you built up Brady and Cassell, then you should be doing cartwheels to have a Cutler to go forward with. Completely unnecessary on his point, plus the fact that he tried to be the hardass, instead of simply saying "You're my QB, let's move on. It's over". No, he called himself taking a stand, and allowed the mess to propagate.

Cutler, on the other hand, spent way too much time pouting. He could have easily taken the high road and say "I'm the QB of this team until I'm told differently. If they believe that trading me makes this team better, I will put in the work this season to prove them wrong." That fully puts the ball in managements court to try and save face. Instead, he just ignored them, which I didn't have a problem with for the first week or so, but after that, he should have just come in and played the bigger man.

In any case, its finally over, and even though the Bears gave up an arm and a leg (I wouldn't have given that second 1st rounder if I gave up Orton), they are better for it.

P.S. Why does everyone think it's clever now to add "-gate" to the end of everything? It's just dumb...

The reason I think this is a win for Chicago is they have filled a void and have the more known quantity.

Denver was trying to fix something that wasn't broken.

I have heard various stories about what happened behind the scenes. But I think the coach screwed up and needed to fall on his sword to compensate for the bruised ego of Cutler. The word I heard was he was defiant and made Cutler's return no option.

Agreed that Denver probably did as well as possible given the original SNAFU.

I didn't really know if you were right about that or not until I picked up the Washington Post today and read that Dan Snyder ordered the Redskins to call Denver and offer Jason Campbell in exchange for Cutler.

Any trade that Snyder wants to make is, by definition, the worst trade in NFL history.

And now, of course, Campbell knows that Snyder wants to get rid of him.

The Bears gave up a very large amount of stuff for Cutler. I look at this like I look at the Bucs giving up first rounders to get Gruden a few years back. They got immediate success, but they wrecked their future as a result. The Bears have a very immediate window for success and they'd better hope they make it count.

Well I thought Denver was stupid for not hiring Ted Roof as their head coach.:laugher:

The worst trade in NFL history both dealt with my team the Redskins.

When Mike Ditka traded every New Orleans pick away to Washington + a #1 pick the following year, just to move up in the draft and get Ricky Williams. Unfortunately, the Redskins management couldn't and still cannot evaluate young talent, so they wasted the opportunity.

The next worst trade in NFL history was when the Redskins traded Cleveland straight up to get Earnest Byner and gave up a guy named Mike Oliphant. Oliphant never did anything in the NFL, and Byner peaked under the Redskins and helped win them a Superbowl in 1991 including a couple of probowl appearances.

I really hate Jay Cutler. I wish him nothing but heartbreak and failure.
 
I thought the worst trade was Herscell Walker for a slew of draft picks. The Cowboys took those picks and won a few Super Bowls.

The Cutler deal was an okay deal. QB's work out well about 1/3 of the time. So giving a couple of picks for what the Bears think is a good QB, is a good deal for them.

Also in today's market of free agency, it really doesn't matter as much. If you dont have the top picks you just go out and buy your free agents to fill the void.

Getting rid of him, bringing in a serviceable QB and getting some extra picks, so that Denver can buff up their defense is exactly what a good GM should do.

Denver's record has been mediocre over the last two seasons, but you can hardly blame that on Cutler. He's had pretty good numbers will their defenses have been absolutely atrocious.

Ignorant comment. No QB was going to win with Denver's defense. And if by "buff up" their defense you mean totally rebuild it, you're on the right track. That's where Denver sucks, not offensively. The Broncos ranked #2 in the NFL in total offense last year, #29 in defense. Hard to win when you can't stop the other guy.

yeah, he pretty much sucked at Vandy right...

While at Vanderbilt, Cutler was a three-year captain and four-year starter, setting school career records for total offense (9,953 yds.), touchdown passes (59), passing yards (8,697), pass completions (710), pass attempts (1,242) and combined touchdowns (76).[1]

he beat TN, which Vandy hadnt done since before Cutler was born, and almost beat the Gators scoring 42 points on them
 
At least now I know who Jeff George's NFL soul reincarnated into.
