Is it sad or hilarious that the 5'7 guy is the best blocker out of the A-backs?
It actually makes sense. Its easier to cut clock if you are naturally closer to the ground (5'7"). The fundamental to cut block is to attack the lower thigh, just above the knee. The defender will involuntarily leave their feet and put their hands down. Its a natural reaction. If you attack the thigh hard enough you will up-end the defender and put them on the ground. Its a lot easier to perform this block if you are already close to the defenders lower thigh.
If you go too high (most of our A-back's problem), then the defender will not leave their feet and shed the block with their leverage. You cannot shed a block if you leave your feet BTW, because you have no leverage.
If you go too low (knee or lower), a D1 defender will jump over you.
This is why Marcus is our best blocker. Plus he's got attitude!
