I'm going to be driving back to Atlanta from New Orleans on the Saturday of the game at Mississippi State. I might request away tickets through the ticket office and catch the game there on my way home. Does anyone have advice about Starkville on gameday. I'd like to get info on parking, dining, traffic, etc. Do Tech fans have a local tailgating area?

I have no advice, but will be interested in hearing some, as SWMBO and I are planning on making the trip as well, and staying with her grandma for the weekend.

I went in 2002 when they played Jax st. A buddy played for JSU. Its kinda like Auburn (old buildings out in the middle of nowhere). Paved lots are only next to the stadium for big Donors. Most of the lots are grass fields. Tailgating was non-existent. I'm sure the atmospere will be better for Tech than it was for JSU, but I still was not impressed.

My advice is to spend as much time in the Big Easy as you can and try to show up right at kickoff. All the hotties go to UM anyways.

I rather like the idea of parking in the grass.

SWMBO's grandma is a big State fan, so she'll probably know some folks going. We might try to tailgate with them.

How far is Tunica from Startkville? Would it be too far to stay in Tunicaand travel to the game? (i'm talking within 30-45 mins of each other)

I grew up about 20 minutes from there in Columbus. Starkville is just your average podunk small town, so just enjoy the game, stay the night and get back to Atlanta. Like at every SEC school, there's alot of tailgating on Saturday and people will be friendly to you.

As for eating, I'd highly recommend Oby's, Bulldog Deli, Little Dooey's BBQ, Old Venice Pizza Company and Harvey's. The Veranda and Mugshots are for nightlife. Also, there are frequent roadblocks around campus, so make sure you've got a designated driver.
