Connor Shaw choses the wrong school

I still don't understand why South Carolina, but that's fine with me.

We have plenty of depth at QB with Luallen and Sims coming in. I would rather go in a different direction and if we do bring in a QB someone who is more of a playmaker who could possibly move positions, Connor could only play WR if he were to changes positions.

not to be condescending

but you serious?

Steve Spurrier is a heck of a college QB coach. That is enough of a reason. Sure, his record as USC isn't like UF....but he has done better than any other coach there and took over a crap program...no lou holtz didn't leave him much so I don't want to hear that....fact is USC is a tough program to sustain anything due to location and division/conf.

Spurrier may be a good coach, but the Gamecocks were before him and still are a very average and "meh" team.

not arguing that, but compare SS vs PJ as it relates to QBs and frankly the choice is obvious. I will take SS anyday. Point is, WE will all have to get used to losing recruits for the option reason...today, tomorrow, yesterday...it is what it is...fair or unfair, I learned long ago perception IS reality, truth or not.....it sucks.

I totally agree. SS has made some poor recruiting decisions at USC, or maybe has just had bad luck getting the guys he wants, but he should be great coach for Connor. He could be the QB that finally gets USC over the hump, and then Spurrier can get back to beating the dawgs and rubbing it in some more. I love that guy! THWG!

He wouldn't have played at Tech his first 2, maybe 3 years. Spurrier burns through QBs, he'll get early playing time there.

Five and a half years from now, when Connor is in his senior season, odds are pretty high that Steve Spurrier won't be his coach.

Don't mean to dog the guy, but the *1* game I saw him in last year he didn't look that hot.

The lad probably made the best decision yet.

With brothers competing against ea other can / may bring on family problems that should have never come up.

I saw this happen at a local HS here in Rome years ago and the younger brother beat out the older brother as both were exceptional athletes.

Fortunately for them, the family was not in turmoil but the parents felt that they had dodged a BIG bullet too.

There's plenty of opportunities out there so that brothers don't need to be beating on each other.

I hope ony the best for young Connor in his career.

CPJ wanted him, that's enough for me. We didn't lose him because of the option as some have mentioned. He wanted to play for his childhood idol and to not have to compete against his brother every day in practice for the same starting position. Those are the public reasons that I know of at least...

I say good luck to the guy...I would be completely happy if he took his team to the national championship...only to lose to GT :)

Wow, assuming he was a true option QB like Jaybo this doesn't make much sense. Surely he'll switch positions at SC.

Or maybe Spurrier is thinking about running a little flexbone.

His high school team runs a shotgun spread offense, much like he will run at USC. His decision makes a lot of sense.

I would have put money on this. TECH is deep and probably getting deeper in the 2010. SC offers a great opportunity to play for his "idol", close to home, rabid, big time, win, lose or draw, fan base/atmosphere, SEC exposure and the tremendous opportunity to NOT play for the mutts.

Too bad we couldn't get him. It's nice to be looking good enough at QB that you can let one get away.

And all the best to Connor. Daddy Shaw must sure be proud.

One of the preceding comments mentioned how quickly Spurrier chews through quarterbacks. Wow, is that ever the truth! I will never forget Spurrier hyping Terry Dean as a 1994 Heisman candidate and then just one week later benching him at the half against Auburn. Dean never played a meaningful down for Florida again and wouldn't speak to Spurrier for 10 years. While Spurrier is obviously a pretty good coach with a national championship under his belt, let's just say that his interpersonal skills with his players, AD's and assistant coaches sometimes left a great deal to be desired. I hope it works out better for Shaw than it did for the semi-Heisman candidate Dean!

Not that we have any room to talk on this point, but could you remind me of all the Steve Spurrier coached QB's who suceeded in the NFL?
