Connor Shaw choses the wrong school

I think that is key for him, plus he would have been competing with Jaybo at some point if he came to GT and stayed at QB. Can't blame the kid, best of luck to him.

From what i understand Jaybo ran our exact offense his Fr So yrs. Then his Jr Sr years they switched to more of a shotgun based system. I saw Flowery Branch play in the playoffs last year, Connor was in the Shotgun nearly every play. He is a talented kid, I think he is a better fit for them than us and made a good decision.

Steve Spurrier is a heck of a college QB coach. That is enough of a reason. Sure, his record as USC isn't like UF....but he has done better than any other coach there and took over a crap program...no lou holtz didn't leave him much so I don't want to hear that....fact is USC is a tough program to sustain anything due to location and division/conf.

Steve Spurrier is one reason. And if he wins a conference championship there, he'll have done something that really is once in a lifetime for a gamecock. 1 conference championship, 13 bowl games in only 110 years of football.

Most schools can pick at least two separate decades in which they had more success than south carolina has had in their entire history.
 
Talked to a Gamecoack alum after Sunrsie service and congratulated him on getting Shaw. He expressed frustration over the QB situation at USC-E. He doesn't think Garcia will be great. Said their best QB is more of an option type without a strong arm for Spurrier's offense.

We agreed that while Spurrier proved himself to be a an excellent QB mentor at Florida, those guys did not come to him as "chopped liver". They were great HS players that he developed further and experienced great success in college, not so much as pros.

At SC he is hampered by:
1. Fewer "pro-style" QB's being developed in high school, partcularly in the South.
2. The few great ones that are out there will go to USC, Texas, UGA, Oklahoma, Tennessee, LSU and Florida before they choose Columbia
3. We wonder if Spurrier will consider going to more of a West Virginia type of spread option if his offense doesn't click this year. It seems he is signing young QB's who might fit that system.
 
Good luck to the kid. Hope he enjoys the tail he finds at USCeast and hope he beats the down UGA.
