Anyway VT turns out to be Clemson last year? Not as far as coaching changes and all that crap, but VT is clearly being already crowned ACC champs and a national title contender, much like Clemson preseason last year. Will the 111th (I think) offense somehow have significant improvement, because to get past team like GT and others that crappy offense won't get it. Personally, I don't see it. I mean Evans, for whatever reason is being regarded as really awesome and I don't think that at all. Average I'd say. Many say VT has a better backfield than GT, rediculous to me, the only people who say that are not drinking clear whiskey (Go Tech!). They lost Macho Harris on D, and a few more key Defensive players. I mean I really don't see how national championship can be spoken with VT behind it. It's a good thing though IMO, there seems to be a correlation pretty close to 1 on preseason favorites falling to the bottom of the barrel. See UGA (haha) and Clemson last year.

I am not ready to call GT a national championship contenders, but I think GT will be a better team than VT. Call me optimistic.

VT's was the 108th offense if I remember. It always make me laugh when VT fans talk about how much their offense improved over the season, when it really just came out looking good against Cincinnati(FWIW). I still remember them having 5 turnovers and 1 offensive touchdown against Duke (2nd to last regular season game) and beating Virginia by a field goal as we ran 400 yards on Georgia. HAH, just realized they had close games in November with the only teams in the ACC that stayed home in December.

VT has always won on trash. If we can keep the trash to a minimum we'll be fine.

All VT does is win, year in and year out. Unless we beat them we have nothing to talk about. And while they may not win the ACC, they won't be Clemson either because they won't fall apart.

I might rephrase some of that. They won't fall apart because of poor coaching. I could honestly see them come apart if Taylor goes out with injury for a few games, just cause he is most of their offense already and there is nothing proven behind him.

It seems very probable to me that he gets injured due to the way he exposes himself scrambling(aka 40% of their offensive production). Especially if he comes in to the season with the mindset that he alone has to carry the team on his shoulders he will be running far too much and may not miss entire games but just remain in a perpetual state of banged upedness. He doesnt have the build to take shots repeatedly

Well, I agree totally, but seriously how much worse can they get from 108 if Tyrod goes down?

O is irrelevant to them. They will be a contender with just ST and D, mark it down. You are correct that Evans is way overrated but he may be their best back in a long time after a string rof average backs. Tyrod will be less effective when teams will know to spend all week scheming for a running qb. I really think the only reason that O worked at all was that rotating two bad but totally different QBs was like going back and forth between the fastball and the change-up.

Macho was easily the best player for VT and IMHO one of the best players in the ACC this decade. He had a lot of ints despite teams avoiding his side. And returned four ints for TDs. He was exceptional on STs particularly as a return guy. As you probably know VT even used him on O. IF they don't have too much falloff from his ability as a shut-down corner and as a returner, they will be a contender obviously even if they put a tackling dummy under center.

VT will contend for the Coastal again next year. Yeah, their offense will blow. But they won't be quite as green as this year. They'll be about 85th in total offense.

What VT doesn't do is beat themselves. The know how not to lose. They pick up the ST points and they have a stout defense. They keep penalties to a minimum.

But we should beat them this year. Our O moved the ball well against them last year. We fumbled the game away. I don't see that repeating this year.

I don't like VPISU, but I want them to be decent this year. Just not decent enough to beat us. I won't be able to listen to another season of ESPN's talking retards taking pot shots at the ACC, while blowing the SEC and Big 12.

Well, the next time I see VT come apart will be the first, so hoping that they do is silly. They are a solid team and they play hard every game, even if they don't play well. You may be able to "see" it, but you have no history or evidence to work with...it's just wishful thinking. Like I said, they may not win the Coastal, but they will be a factor.

I think they'll win 9 or 10 and finish in the top 15. If Tyrod goes down they will have a lot of trouble. Their D and ST will keep them in every game. Beamer is excellent and wont let his team self destruct ala Clemson. They will be way tuff to beat but I see us winning this game 28-17. We're due. I expect CPJ to have us fired up for this game

We will win this game. Mark it down.

If I had to bet money on any game (without knowing what the spread was) as of right now, I'd put money on Tech over VT.

What's your angle?

I think UNC is the team PJ most wants after UGA but I could be wrong. Also, While VT may be overrated at times I generally think UNC is more overrated in Vegas so if we are blind betting against the thread I like UNC to be favored over us.

On the flip side I think UNC and UVA match up disproportionately well versus us because they aren't cocky idiots like miami and UGA who think they will simply show up and outathlete us. So that prevents me from calling for a UNC blowout.

Cept the UNC fans are probably the ones doing the most trash-talking about GT because they only looked at the score of the game on ESPN after going to their basketball game and assume they will wipe the floor with us.

The biggest issue is that UNC as a group really don't understand football at all. Just read their board periodically...some of the most bizarre "football" discussion you'll find anywhere.

To defeat the Hokies we need a repeat of the 2006 game: come out gunning early and stomp their face in the ground. That game was awesome.

But they did not lose Bud Foster. But I agree, they are not really candidates for the MNC discussion. No one in the ACC should be --until we, as a group, step up to the national level of excellence.

In much the same way that CPJ focused on the Georgia game, I expect him to have our guys poised to settle up with VPI, UVA, and UNC this fall. We have two of the three at Grant Field. I envision 3-0 against these teams.
