I heard that new procedure was announced in the nique but I haven't seen it yet. Could someone elaborate or provide a link?

Here is what I understand from what I read and was told at the ticketing committee meeting a month or so ago:

9000 student tix are now alotted (about 500 more than before). Of those 9000, 2900 will be "season tickets" at $36 for the package. This allows you to sit on either side of the band. All groups MUST be season ticket holders. The other 6100 are applied for at the beginning of the week and are distributed through an online system (I don't know how that works yet). Those are then first come first serve seats the day of the game. If there are any tickets left 15 mins prior to kickoff, any student can show up and get in until none remain.

There will be no more paper tickets. It is all online and buzzcard activated now. Tap your buzzcard and you are in.

One concern I have is that there is no mention of SWARM and when I talked to the head of SWARM he seemed unsure of what it means for the group. I hope that helps. The 'nique doesn't have this weeks copy up yet, but check that and you can probably find out more and in better details.

I read it this morning, but I can't find my copy right now. They are allocating a portion, forgot the exact number, as "season tickets" you can purchase for $36 or something like that. The rest will be single game tickets, which they still are working out the best way to allocate those. Everything has been moved online and you will swipe your buzzcard to get in. Again, off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure thats what I read this morning.

Edit:
Ahh. Beaten to it.

So what happens if the season tickets sell out? How will they be allocated if more demand than supply?

Not entirely sure if you are saying there is more demand for the 2900 season tickets, or more demand for the 9000 total tickets.

If its the latter, thats always been the case. There has always been more demand for ticket vouchers than there are tickets available, but this would only manifest itself in the major games (although, tickets were running out really quickly last season).

If its the former, I am sure that those folks will simply have to get tickets from the standard section.

What I am curious about is whether each "season ticket" is attached to a particular student, or if any student can enter on a season ticket. I think its the latter (thereby allowing block ticketing) but I hope they scan buzzcards for these too, restricting them only to students, and not allowing alumni to enter at the discounted student rate. (not really discounted, since we each pay over $120 for tickets already. And this includes ALL F-T students, not just those who go to games).

Swarm will not be affected. They are part of the 1st and 10 "season" tickets you mention. You pay your initiation (I think $10) and you are ok...don't worry about swarm.

why do you say that? The $120 is for EVERY athletic event at tech not just football right? It ALSO includes intramurals, and the athletic center access....Students shouldn't single out football so much. If I could pay 120 for a year or semester, have unlimited access to that athletic facility, every football game, basketball game etc, I would be in heaven, even if broke. Hell I was a student there and never complained about the fees (not saying u are complaining, just saying i have seen students complain; and I am not sure why). The fact is, at most bigtime student schools you have to pay $100 bucks JUST for season tickets in football and those aren't gauranteed. You guys/We have it good at tech!

Technically 33, we also have a rec facilitiy fee of $54 in addition to the $118 Athletic fee, and those are both paid every semester.

The problem is that students are getting nickled and dimed left and right, including 'temporary' USG fees, season ticket fees etc.

Will swarm have to pay the $36 in addition to the $10/15, or just the latter?

Good to hear. The swarm energizes the rest of the crowd. Would hate to see them go.

One or the other. No way they try to pull that kind of scam, I'd hope GT students wouldn't fall for it.

What I wonder is when/how you get these season tickets. I mean I am interested in it, but am I gonna have to camp out for em or is it electronic too?

How in the world is that a scam? You pay the extra money to SWARM for the shirt, the better seats, and as a donation to the school you support. Previously the tickets were free, so it was just the $20 extra for SWARM. If the tickets now cost $36, then it will be $36 + $20 = $56. That's not a "scam" at all. They're just raising ticket prices.

ATH Athletic $118.00
HEA Health $135.00
PKFE Parking Permit Fees $302.00
REC Rec-Facility Fee $54.00
SA Student Activity $118.00
TECH Technology Fee $103.00
TEMP USG Institutional Fee $100.00
TRAN Transportation $64.00

I am paying $135 for health coverage that I never use, $64 for transportation that I never use and $118 for student activities which I almost never use.

BTW jackets nest tickets are about $130 and are guaranteed.

I talked do D-Rad after the game today about student tickets. Essentially, from what I understood, SWARM is no longer in existence or, if it is, it will be greatly downsized and will not have the priority it used to. He said that "SWARM will be alotted a small block in the season tickets area around the band."

As for the 2900 season tickets. He stated that there will be 2600 but that may change based off of demand. If they need more, they will give out more.

Well that's total BS. I'm looking into this, I'll let you know when I find out more...

I'm pretty sure you can opt not to pay some of those fees. I know someone who didn't pay transportation fees at least.

Don't worry Rod, I've already talked to the head of Swarm (KK) and am going to follow up with D-Rad next week. I may be enlisting your help sometime soon and anyone else who is willing to help.

How did you gather that from the discussion we had? From what I heard, SWARM is going to be protected as it was. It's just going to be registered as a block. From our perspective, it should be the same.

Also, I hate to sound like someone who thinks his opinion matters (it doesn't). But, I personally have put too much work into helping build SWARM into what it is today to just see it go by the wayside. People in charge know how important we are and they'll tailor this system to us.

Those are all required except the parking permit if you are a full time student.
