Coaches Hot Seat Bottom Line
We predict that Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech will have a 11-1 record in 2009.If Paul Johnson has looked over Ga. Tech's 2009 schedule this offseason he may have thought, we have most our toughest games at home, some very winnable games on the road, and a nonconference schedule that is very manageable, so how many wins can we get this season? Maybe a lot... Let's take a look at the games and see....

9/05/09 - Jacksonville State at Georgia Tech- I-AA Jacksonville State comes to town and Georgia Tech goes to 1-0.

9/10/09 - Clemson at Georgia Tech- Dabo Swinney and his Clemson team gave Georgia Tech all they wanted in Death Valley last season, but this game is in Atlanta and that means a win for the Yellow Jackets. Tech is 2-0.

9/17/09 - Georgia Tech at Miami- In '08 Georgia Tech crushed Miami in Atlanta and we see this year's game as a very tight and close game that will be undecided late into the 2nd half. In the end Ga. Tech's offense will be the difference as the Yellow Jackets get the win and raise their record to 3-0.

9/26/09 - North Carolina at Georgia Tech- Paul Johnson is very tough against teams that beat him the year before and in '08 the Tar Heels handled the Yellow Jackets in Chapel Hill . In a close one, Tech gets the win to raise their record to 4-0.

10/03/09 - Georgia Tech at Mississippi State- Dan Mullen has brought a lot different approach to Starkville, but beating Georgia Tech in year one, even at home, will be a bridge too far. Ga. Tech beats Miss. St. and raises their record to 5-0.

10/10/09 - Georgia Tech at Florida State - FSU seemed to get a little life in '08 after several years of down football and the Seminoles almost beat Tech in Atlanta last season. In a very close game that has both offenses moving up and down the field, Tech gets the big win on the road to raise their record to 6-0.

10/17/09 - Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech- Georgia Tech could have very easily beaten Frank Beamer and the Hokies in Blacksburg last season and this year's game in Atlanta will be another close one. We see Virginia Tech being a very good football team in '09 and the Hokies will get the win in this spot which will drop the Tech record to 6-1.

10/24/09 - Georgia Tech at Virginia - Tech had a big letdown against Virginia in '08 and using the Paul Johnson will really want to beat that team the next year rule, Tech shows up in Charlottesville and gets the big win to raise their record to 7-1.

10/31/09 - Georgia Tech at Vanderbilt- Vanderbilt proved last season that they can play with any team on their schedule and this should be a great game between two very similar opponents. In another close game we see the Yellow Jackets getting the win on the road, to raise their record to 8-1.

11/07/09 - Wake Forest at Georgia Tech- Over the next 5 to 10 years, anytime that Jim Grobe and Paul Johnson end up meeting one can be assured that one will see a very good football game. In a great early November game, we see Georgia Tech getting the win at home, which raises their record to 9-1.

11/14/09 - Georgia Tech at Duke- We fully expect that Duke will take another big step forward in '09 under David Cutcliffe and the Blue Devils will probably give the Yellow Jackets all they want in this game in Durham. In a closer than expected game, Ga. Tech gets the win to raise their record to 10-1.

11/28/09 - Georgia at Georgia Tech- Paul Johnson and his Yellow Jackets surprised almost everyone by going to Athens and beating Georgia in '08, and no doubt Mark Richt will not want to make it two straight losses to his 2nd most important rival (behind the Gators). In another very good game, we see Ga. Tech getting the win at home which will raise the Yellow Jackets 2009 regular season to 11-1.

Can Georgia Tech really go 11-1 in 2009? Yes, they can, and that should scare the hell out of everyone in the ACC, because Paul Johnson is not going anywhere, anytime soon.

There were a lot of surprises in the 2008 season to those of us here at Coaches Hot Seat, but none of us were surprised that Paul Johnson was successful in his first year at Georgia Tech, and we fully expect Johnson's Yellow Jackets to only get better in the coming years. In many ways the ACC conference is the perfect setting for Paul Johnson and his option offense, because schools in the ACC do not have the team speed on defense that one sees in the SEC and Big 12 conferences and there are also very few, if any high scoring offenses in the ACC today. There were a few of us here at Coaches Hot Seatthat were hearing late last season that Auburn might take a run at Johnson if/when Tuberville did not return and maybe Auburn did ask to speak with Johnson, but if they did, Johnson surely turned them down. Although it seemed to us that Paul Johnson's offense and style of coaching would have fit in very well at Auburn, Johnson probably smartly remembered how his Georgia Tech team got destroyed by LSU in the Chick-fil-A bowl and also the current roster of SEC head coaches and then wisely decided to stay in Atlanta. Now that Paul Johnson has planted his flag at Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets are going to be a force to be reckoned with for the foreseeable future and that cannot be good news for the head coaches in the ACC that got a taste of Johnson's triple-option and aggressive defense last season. Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech put up a 8-4 record in the regular season in 2008, so what can they do for an encore? Good question....
 
Wow....I sure hope so. I do disagree with the VT prediction. I see us losing to FSU rather than VT. Paul Johnson will open up everything to VT assuming they even give us a considerable battle.

I like the article, but this portion is more of the same SEC talk that really gets under my skin. Sure, LSU took us to the woodshed but we beat two other SEC teams last year. Team speed my ****

That's the best part because Paul Johnson apparently saw into the ****ing future and realized that we would be on the wrong end of the Peach Bowl and he'd never be able to compete in the mighty SEC and decided to humbly stay at our little Institute. They also think VPISU will be a very good team, rather then a very lucky team, as they always are.

Is there really any difference? When you are "always lucky," then you're not really "lucky," you're good.

But yeah, the article is not very good. I mean, it sounds like it's written by someone for whom English is a second language, and there's really very little in the way of actual analysis or reason.

That's not what bothers me about the article. What bothers me is that they claim Paul Johnson "smartly" turned down Auburn because he knew he couldn't compete against the WOOO!!! MIGHTTTY!! SEC! using the LSU game as justification. Even though Auburn hired Chizik three weeks before the Peach Bowl was played. Paul Johnson is so God-damned awesome that he can see into the ****ing future.

They were lucky last year, but they were really good in their first four years in the conference. Overall from 2004-2007 they had the league's best D and special teams by far, and were about average on offense.
 
11-1 is no doubt possible but I will be pleasently surprised if we accomplish this record. I am though starting to expect a national championship next season.
 
Yikes. 11-1 talk is setting the bar pretty high. I think its certainly possible but absolutely nothing can go wrong. And something always goes wrong.

In college, its hard to get the kids to play up to their potential every Saturday and that usually means a loss or two just for playing someone who's playing an A game with your C game even tho your A game is better than their A game. Gardner Webb.

Having said that, I don't see us losing a home game but think we'll drop at least two on the road. Vandy being a very likely candidate for one of them.

Yeah, that is pretty damn ignorant of them. Hopefully we can match up with a higher tier SEC team in our BCS bowl this year and beat the hell out of them. CPJ has made a living out of proving people wrong.
 
First, we were 9-3 in the regular season last year. Second, the LSU game was lost by the ST's, not our O which still averaged 4.1 ypc on the ground despite the huge deficit, compliments of our ST's. Third, other than UGAG, we have now gone 5-2 against the mighty SEC since 2000. Fourth, 11-1 would be a very big stretch in thinking.

No, not the only one. If FSU has one or no losses when they face us (a possibility), then we are more likely to be underdog there than at home.
 
There is no team on our schedule that we can't beat. However, that being said, its hard to get up for every single game every single week. I hoping for 13-0 but realize that is not probable.
 
Coaches Hot Seat is HOT BS regarding Johnson and the SEC. The SEC has depth at the big schools but team speed is no different than in the ACC. The ACC has more team speed than the Big 12 and it isn't even close! This is a SEC lover that wants to cling to other conferences (big 12) in order to sell his HOT BS.

p.s. I see us losing to FSU and beating VPI also, but we'll lose another game or two. Our lines are too weak/our depth too young.
