HD Top 30 ACC Players Countdown

Fair enough. I think it's clear that Spiller's sophomore season was his best thus far. I think it is easy to forget that their O-Line last year was very young, which could go along way to help him this year.

Currently he is listed as a 1st/2nd rounder (not that these mock drafts matter in the least, and not that they would affect your opinion on whether he will actually get drafted that high anyway) on most mock drafts.

I guess we'll see.

That bit about the O line last year is about as true for Dwyer as it was Spiller, while ours wasn't always technically young, it was learning a whole new blocking scheme and was the worst form of the "square peg for round hole" thing that has been used to describe what Paul Johnson did last year (evidenced by the starting tackle being a converted tight end).

On a side note, either Dinich is going to shock everyone with who the number 2 person is or it's Spiller.

All you guys that have been giving Heather a hard time...claiming that she does not respect GT or know crap about football...need to give the proper kudo's here to place 3 GT players in the Top 10! It has been awhile since we had 3 of the Top 10 in anyones list!

She's not totally clueless. She does hang around, finding some inside stuff, and is a pretty bright chick. She is a reporter, not an analyst. She doesn't know X's and O's well at all.

That said, you have to have been in Australia for the last 2 years not to know that Dwyer, Burnett and Morgan are three of the elite players in the league. I mean, Morgan was the #1 ranked DL in PA in 2006, if not the #1 overall. Burnett led the nation in INT's much of the year, and Dwyer was the ACC POY.

Still, I'm happy she's agrees. :)

I wonder who Mark Schlabach would put in the Top 10?...3 GT players? ..or Tony Barnhart? :D

Well, FWIW, I'd put Schlabach in the same boat with HD. Barnhart is a bit more knowledgeable about the game itself.

Hey, I'll take what we got.

so she completely left either tyrod or spiller off the best 30 players in ACC? wow :)

Probably Tyrod. Similar thing with Nesbitt, they are both QB's who have had great games and bad games and both have had issues with that whole passing thing (though in my opinion one should be more critical of Taylor in that department, since his offense does it more and he played a lot more as a freshman from what I've heard).

If you look at them as QBs, and then their statistics it probably makes sense to leave them off. Josh hasn't shown the ability to pass the ball yet and Taylor has his own issues. Both are great athletes and may be just as effective as any other QB in the league, but they just do it differently.

I agree. All I was saying is that Spiller could be in the top 5 despite his season last year. And the reason for last year could be somewhat attributed to the poor O-line. That being said, JD and Spiller are not on the same page. To me, JD is the best RB in the country (a little biased, but trying not to be).

What about Nesbitt? I believe he is top 30 in this league, and if not, his exclusion from this list does nothing but show how under rated he is. By end of this year, he will be top 10 easily. Book it. (barring injury)

He may be by the end of the year...I agree. But he has not shown it based on last year. He has to improve his reads on all plays (pre and post snap)...and his release timing on the passing game. I think this year will be a huge jump for him.

Josh underperformed last season but it is easily attributable to him needing to switch gears and learn CPJ's offense. Let's not forget about the fact that he missed the entire Spring practice last year due to injury so that gave him even less time to learn it. Regardless, I think Josh is the unsung hero of last season; I don't know how well our team would have done without him.

I certainly hope so. From his recent interview with the AJC, he sounds more comfortable with everything. What is even more awesome is that with all the attention our A-backs and B-backs are getting, some teams may forget to have a plan for Josh's leg or arm. :D

Can someone tell me how Spiller has shown it? And he has had 3 years to do so. If Spiller qualifies, then both Taylor and Nesbitt qualify as they are both more critical to their teams' offenses. I mean, they were the quarterbacks of the two best teams in the conference last year.

I guess you can tell I'm not a big Spiller guy. Lotsa hype, little production, second on his own team. Taylor, lotsa hype decent production, critical leader. Nesbitt, less hype, decent production, critical leader.

I know that you complimented Josh in your post, but I still take issue with the "Josh underperformed last season" line. I only say this because (1) Josh played with a hurt hamstring most of the year, and (2) he never used "new system" as an excuse.

In my estimation, Josh over-performed last year based on how hurt he was. I've had a hamstring injury in the past, and it is impossible to get over. For instance, in the Miami game he was great, but he was still limited - getting pulled down from behind on several long runs. That doesn't happen if he's at full strength, and I don't consider that to be underperforming.

If anything, Josh was a warrior last year, and put the team above himself alot. You can make a case based on numbers (particularly passing %), but if you look at the heart and leadership, he was highly responsible for the success we had last year. Think about the BC game, or the Clemson game.

Josh had two sprained ankles, JWD had the hammy. Still, sprains can be about as bad as a hammy to rehab. It took the off-season for him to heal. Still had more rushing yards than Spiller.

This is a top players list....

...look at it this way

Who are the players the NFL is talking about taking early?

Burnett, Dwyer, and Morgan....DThomas on the outside looking in.

No one else is being discussed at this time....but there is a season to be played which could change things!

Josh had the two sprained ankles later in the season (against FSU and UNC), but he also had the hamstring injury against Miss St that caused him to miss Duke and Garder Webb; I doubt the lingering effects of that injury ever went away during the season.

I'm not trying to argue that Josh or Tyrod needs to be in the top 2 players. I'm trying to argue that Spiller is not. I do believe that Josh, Tyrod and Spiller all three deserve to be on that list somewhere. But it's HD, and she's trying to spread the love.

You're right, the sprain occurred when Gardner rolled over on him in the FSU game. He sprained the other one the next week in the UNC game.
