Interview with Wommack

By the comments in this thread, Stingtalk posters continue to demostrate the lowest football IQs of all the GT boards. Most people who have football knowledge have moved away from this board because they are attacked by posters who love to swim in their self created mire of ignorance. Most Stingtalk regulars are like a bunch of backwoods close minded inbreads who cast dispersions on outsiders due to a fear of their own inadequacies.
This is the best board for the simple fact you can post on here without fear of being banned for having a different opinion! Which is what the boards are for, to discuss, not just agree with whatever the mods say!!! I'll take this board anyday over being somebodies bitch on another one!

Comparatively to what other people run, changing from Tenuta's defense to a traditional one could be liked to a school going from running the our offense to running Gailey's offense.

Now why would anyone want to do that?

Ranking my concerns about the team prior to reading this article:

1. DTs
2. Dave Wommack
3. OL
4. CBs

After reading this article, there may be a tie for top spot.

Maybe Wommack has plans that he does not want to air publicly. That would be smart, and I hope it's true. However, last year's performance--and failure to adjust-- suggests otherwise.
Your grounds for moving him to the top would be if he told HD his master plans for the year.

I'll let you go back to things you know about, like uniform colors and intro songs.
You're not going to let us do anything. We're going to debate the 1000 shades of Gold in BDS regardless of your opinion. Wait a minute...

First, please don't liken any of our coaches to Gailey. You may be proven correct in the coming years, but we all obviously hope for better.

Second, I'd liken it more to switching from riding a crotch rocket with the throttle that sticks open to riding a normally functioning Gold Wing (better balance, weight, handling, etc - more stable).

Exactly. To those of us who know this one... very funny! :laugher: I actually liked Tenuta alot as our DC. On the whole, I think he did a great job. That said... I'm still hoping for better from DW, and if I ever get a chance to play 'Rock / Blitz, Paper, Scissors' with Tenuta, I think I could make some money.

We should definitely change the name of the game to Blitz Paper Scissors in his honor.

Hold on everybody you are mistaking my intent. What I meant was is that changing from our offense to Gaileys involves going from a system that's very specific and focuses on a particular set of skills (take cut blocking for example) to one that requires more variety of abilities. That's what I likened going from Tenuta to Wommack. Imagine if Navy all of a sudden started running a normal offense. It'd be a transition almost as hard as going from normal to the 3O.

Jacketup....WOW dude. Chill. If you don't like how we talk about things don't come here. Simple concept. Especially don't post your ignorant ramblings on here about how we suck. What makes you any better?

About DW, I am not worried he did great things at Southern Miss. Another reason why I am not worried is because Paul Johnson called him up. I trust Paul Johnson knows how to pick a coach. He needs another year. I think you could attribute most of the lackadaisical performances from our defense last year to our "star" players who took a day off every now and then.

Hard to blame DW for mistake's when we had one of the best secondary's in the ACC last year. Hell Burnette was tied for 1st in interceptions. Sure during the MIA and FSU games there were open reciever's, but did they weren't given the ball becasue the QB was running for his life. When you blitz or bring on a heavy rush there are going to be reciever's open, YOU IGNORAMOUS JACKETUP, that's the risk/reward you take. Duh.

Hmm, I wonder how many open receivers Tenuta allowed.

A *bunch*, but he didn't care, because he only wanted to cover them for the first 4 seconds of the play anyway. If we didn't get a sack inside those first 4 seconds, then he figured it didn't matter anyway.

1. Wommack was FIRED as DC at Arkansas.

2. He then went to South Carolina as an assistant (not DC) where he was FIRED after 2 years.

3. He then went to So. Miss where he was an assistant, not DC.

4. Paul Johnson hired him from So. Miss. He was not Johnson's first choice.

There are plenty of reasons to question Wommack, but don't let the facts get in the way of hurling insults at posters who are trying to educate the inbreds.

I again return you to your discussions on uniform colors.

So what part of us have a less bleak outlook about our defensive coordinator makes us inbred? Hell, if we're inbred and your so much smarter than us, does that make you an average person? Maybe by that logic there's no such thing as intelligent when students and graduates of one of the most prestigious technical schools in the U.S. are no better than inbreds hmmm?

You disagree with us that's fine. You think were stupid well I don't give a crap. You bring up pieces of information to back up your football opinions so leave the ****ing insults for the ESPN comment sections yeah?

Houston Nutt said he was forced to fire him, and he didn't want to.

I'm not that worried about Wommack. If he sucks in 2 years we'll fire him and get someone else.

Wow, you really just talk out of your ass don't you?

Here's some FACTS for you that you shouldn't allow to get in your way to make a bogus argument.

He was at Southern Miss BEFORE he ever made it to SC or Arkansas, and wasn't fired from Southern Miss on his 2nd tour there BEFORE he came here.. He left Arkansas because he was there with the Houston Nutt saga and him bopping some coeds. The only job he was let go from was South Carolina. Get your facts straight.

Prior to South Carolina, he spent a four-year stint at Arkansas from 2001-04, including the last three years as the defensive coordinator. He also coached the secondary, free safeties, cornerbacks and inside linebackers. The Razorbacks made appearances in the Independence Bowl (2003), Music City Bowl (2002) and Cotton Bowl (2001). Wommack's first of two stints at Southern Miss came during a seven-year span from 1994-2000, one of the most successful periods in Golden Eagle history. He was the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach in 1999 and 2000. He coached the outside linebackers in 2000, the middle and strong-side linebackers in 1999 and defensive backs from 1994-98.

Southern Miss was a founding member of Conference USA in 1996 and won three of the first four championships (1996, 1997 and 1999). The Golden Eagles made four straight bowl appearances from 1997-00, winning the 1997 and 1999 Liberty Bowls and the 2000 GMAC Bowl. All-Americans Cedric Scott and Leo Barnes were the defensive leaders.

As defensive coordinator, the 2000 defense finished second in the nation in total defense, eighth in scoring defense, fifth in pass defense and fourth in pass efficiency defense. The Golden Eagles collected an 8-4 record that season and won the GMAC Bowl, 28-21, over No. 13 TCU.

His 1999 defense was No. 7 in the nation in turnover margin and No. 8 in rushing defense, scoring defense and total defense. All-American Adalius Thomas and T.J. Slaughter were the defensive leaders. Southern Miss posted a 9-3 record that season, won its second C-USA title and won the Liberty Bowl, 23-17, over Colorado State. The 1998 Southern Miss squad ranked 18th nationally in scoring defense, finished with a 7-5 record and made an appearance in the Humanitarian Bowl.

The 1997 Golden Eagle squad posted a 9-3 record and won the second Conference USA championship. Southern Miss defeated Pitt, 41-7, in the Liberty Bowl, the first bowl game for the Golden Eagles since 1990. All-American cornerback and C-USA Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain ranked 10th in the nation in interceptions and was drafted No. 44 in the NFL Draft. Defensive back Jamaal Alexander was a sixth-round pick.
The 1996 defense ranked No. 3 in turnover margin and No. 8 in rushing defense. Southern Miss ranked seventh nationally in interceptions with 18, led by Surtain. The Golden Eagles posted an 8-3 record and shared the conference title with Houston.

You don't get ranked 2nd in the nation in total defense and are a bum DC. His defense that year jumped up and flat out spanked some pretty big teams including holding Bama to a shut out 21-0. Not to mention almost upsetting Tennessee in the opener 16-19. They beat Oklahoma State 28-6. The average opponents score against them was less than 17 points and that includes 49 points Petrino's Louisville team hung on them. They also beat TCU in the liberty bowl 28-21 and that was against Ladanian Tomlinson.

Go research something instead of spouting off **** you obviously don't ****ing know because you're a God damn idiot.

So you missed the first stint at Sou Miss when they had one of the best defenses in the country right? You also missed the part about Arky playing a number of OT games that blew their statistics way out of line? Oh, and Nutt sacrificed Wommack so he could save his own butt. But just keep your stupidity rolling along. Oh, and who was PJ's first choice.

Look Buddy, you were the one to first insult us as a group. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Secondly, like I said if you don't care to engage in our conversations then don't come here. Trust me we can do without you just fine. This happens to be the only board that really bands together and we all have a great passion for all things GT football and GT alike. If you don't like our mantra, or our posts then leave and go the hive and buzzoff where the real nimwads are. Who are you to call any of us inbreeders when you probably don't even know any of us, nor seen any of us. If you want to call anyone an inbreeder go to the blawg or any other dawg boards...

You know, I was hoping for an enlightened reason to question Wommack, but I've lowered my expectations on that one. You're a Tenuta lover, but he chose to run to Touchdown Jesus and play second fiddle to the Great Blumpkin. I'd love to see Al Groh play chess with Tenuta.

Groh - Knight to Queen's Bishop 5.

Tenuta - ROCK! <Tenuta then bites the head off Groh's king, spits it in Groh's face and punches a baby.>

I place the blame for the open receivers on Jahi Word-Daniels bum hamstring. In fact, I remember some of our better players being either banged up or locked up. That's no excuse, but I think it's a reason. But hey, I'm just a Stingtalk Troglodyte who communicates through a series of grunts, clicks and whistles.

I loved Tenuta but he absolutely SUCKED his first year on the job.

51-7.

Also, I'd rather have our D create turnovers than sacks.

Our secondary was downright atrocious under Tenuta.

Go back and read this thread and let's see who fired the insults first--me, or posters "replying" to my thread. It's always this way on Stingtalk. A bunch of immature jackasses that, rather than come back with facts or informed opinions, hurl insults. Go back and read it, and then tell me about starting insults.

Drinkclearwiskey is just WRONG about who started the insults (apparently can't read the thread), as is BOR (attributes statements to me that I did not make so that he can say I am wrong-how clever). ncjacket tries to spin things ( as usual) to avoid the objective fact that Wommack was fired from Arkansas, and he is uninformed about the hiring of Wommack, which does not prevent him from arguing out his butt.

My four point post above is all FACTS. Anyone who disagrees is disagreeing with objective fact. You may as well argue that 2 plus 2 does not equal 4, which is very likely on this board, with an insult to the poster who says 2 plus 2 is 4 thrown in for good measure.

I agree with beej67 that PJ WILL get rid of Wommack if he doesn't work out, which is back to my original post--Wommack is near the top of my list of concerns about this year's team. And for good reason.
