Interview with Wommack

Jacketup:

Since you have such a problem with WOmmack's defensive "scheme", then what defensive "scheme" would you run? Remember this "scheme" would have to include the fact that you have only sophmores and freshmen in the secondary. Go for it. I am all eyes.

He would run the #1 Tenuta

It also works for recruiting:

Tenuta's D played many incredible games for us, and won us a fair share of games too, but there was always a game or two every season where they were just completely picked apart.

Boston College's Matt Ryan comes to mind...

What about UGA? They killed us on O.
You mean with the number 1 pick in the draft, a high draft pick receiver, and a stud freshman receiver against our injury-stricken defense?

That was just something I remember thinking around the end of last year on a whim, but it just seemed Tenuta's D would be dominant one week and the next week get killed while we kept doing the same thing over and over.

Definitely pees standing up.

and the second half of the ND game here in ATL

Not really. Our defense finally cracked in the w2nd half vs ND because they were wiped out tired because our offense couldn't stay on the field, and even then they should have held if not for that pussy helmet to helmet call.

OK, games over 30 points, I'm thinking of...

2002
Maryland (34)
UGAG (51)
Fresno St (30)

2003
Clemson (39)
Duke (41)
UGAG (34)

2004
UNC (34)
VA Tech (34)
UVA (30)

2005
VA Tech (51)
Utah (38)

2006
Clemson (31)
WVU (38)

2007
UGA (31)
Fresno St (40)

2008 (Wommack)
UGAG (42)
LSU (38)

Look at those names also. Which teams would you most expect to have good offense...that's right, LSU and ugag. How the hell we gave up >30 to Duke, Va Tech and UNC in '04 is beyond me. I mean, it's never good, but how can people be slamming Wommack after that track record from our D's the previous 6 years.

That's all interesting and all but I don't really care what we give up when we win and if we lose, all I care about is margin of victory (how many points we lost by).

Gardner Webb had no problem running up and down the field on that scheme. I see big issues for your D this season.

Yeah, they scored a whole touchdown. What did Georgia Southern score on Georgia again I can't remember? Pretty sure it was more than 7 though.

GW had 74 yards rushing on 44 carries for a hefty 1.7 ypc average. They had 153 yards passing (14/24/1) for a 6.4 ypa average. That one WR went for for 97 yards.

Their drives over 30 yards were, in order of occurrence:
41 yards (1st) - punt
30 yards (2nd) - punt
69 yards (3rd) - TD
38 yards (4th) - missed FG from our 25

That is it.

I don't think they "ran up and down the field on that scheme."

The problem that day was simply that Booker was too slow to run the option. Now teams ought to pay attention to how they clogged up the middle. Their DL went low on our OL and made a train wreck out of our dive. We should have been able to do the toss- sweep to Dwyer and Jones all day, but the timing was all off. No excuses, we just stunk on offense that day.

I'm pretty sure you didn't see the Gardner Webb game, or you wouldn't be saying that. I know you wanted to get in that last sentence, but at least wait until you can bring it up without looking like an ignorant dumbass. There were games where our D played subpar, but GW wasn't one of them.

Thanks for the concern. If I were you I'd worry about Joe Tereshinski the 4th, Caleb "Jasper" King, and the flag football team you have on defense.

Ranking my concerns about the team prior to reading this article:

1. DTs
2. Dave Wommack
3. OL
4. CBs

After reading this article, there may be a tie for top spot.

So, all you who insulted me for this post....

what do you think about "40 Point" Wommack now?

Still want to defend him?

I'm off any kind of defense of Wommack. I don't think he's even playing checkers out there. Something closer to Connect Four or maybe Candy Land.

I don't want to have any of the D's woes hung on the offense in this game either. We have forced one stinking punt the entire game and any time we blitz I think the water boys know it, because Harris is checking into that damn screen pass.
