12:08
[Comment From sam]
What are you most looking forward to this season
12:08
Paul Johnson: Just the chance to see how the football team as matured and grown. To see how much progress we've made as a program
12:10
[Comment From Doug]
who do you want to see step up and lead the defense this fall?
12:11
Paul Johnson: I think there are a couple of guys ..Derrick Morgan, Morgan Burnett and Sedric Griffith and Brad Jefferson...I think they are returning players that have some credibility with the rest of the team.
12:12
[Comment From Steve]
Does Dwyer have a shot at the Heisman
12:13
Paul Johnson: I think he does if he can have the same type of year he had last year and the team can have some early success.
12:13
[Comment From JB]
Any changes to the uniforms? Just kidding. Do you think the O-line will be better at pass protection this year?
12:13
Paul Johnson: They were one of the most improved groups this spring. They need to be this season.
12:14
[Comment From Charles]
Of the offensive lineman that did not play in 2008, who has the best shot at starting in 2009?
12:15
Paul Johnson: Its hard to single out one guy Sean Bedford or Uzzi or Phil Smith..I think Uzzi and Phil both had good springs and Bedford ended the Spring as starting center. And I can't forget Brad Sellers
12:15
[Comment From Gary]
Coach, what position do you see GT stronger in 09 as compared to last year?
12:15
Paul Johnson: I hope we'll be stronger at every potition, the question will be D line. Almost everyone is returning.

12:16
[Comment From Rick Stevens]
Coach Johnson, since the first 3 games are within 12 days of each other, is GT preparing for Clemson and Miami along with JSU this summer?
12:16
Paul Johnson: This Summer we're not preparing for any individual team, we won't start preparing for teams until 2 weeks into camp. This summer we're working on our own stuff.
12:17
[Comment From bp]
Coach, just wanted to say you're a perfect fit for GT and I'm so thankful you're here. There's been a lot written about your offensive philosophy, can you discuss your defensive mindset?
12:17
Paul Johnson: I think it parrallels the offense you have to be aggressive and it needs to be a mirror of the offensive scheme you want.
12:17
[Comment From Bill]
Coach, do you get a good chuckle out of all our opponents that are bringing in these "Option Experts" to try and help their defense stop GT?
12:18
Paul Johnson: Its interesting. I think some people are just taking their money. If they were paying enough I'd be happy to go help them myself

12:20
Paul Johnson: We hope its going to be a good game....
12:20
[Comment From David]
Coach, Josh Nesbitt took a lot of hits last season. He also didn't play in the spring game. How is he holding up in the off season?
12:21
Paul Johnson: Josh is fine...he had a lot of freak type injures last year, not so much from being hit...he pulled a hammy and stepped on a foot...I expect him to be good this season
12:21
[Comment From David]
I'm excited about heading to Lawrence, next year. What are some of the benefits and drawbacks of playing a team like k-state from outside of the southeast that gt normally doesn't play?
12:22
Paul Johnson: We're playing Kansas and its some exposure in a part of the country you don't normally have plus you're playing a team from a power conference.
12:22
[Comment From barry]
any golfers on the squad?
12:22
Paul Johnson: I'm sure there are, but I haven't had the chance to play with them
12:23
[Comment From bp]
can you talk about the "wolf" position and how much it will be utilized?
12:23
Paul Johnson: Its a hybrid safety linebacker and it depends on who we're playing on how much it will be used...
12:23
[Comment From Shawn]
Coach, any chance Tevin gets some looks at A back this fall if one of the two freshman QBs come in and impress?
12:23
Paul Johnson: Its always possible, but right now we don't have any plans for that
12:24
[Comment From Kevin]
You mentioned Defense Who are your leaders on Offense?
12:24
Paul Johnson: I think that is a developing story as well...certainly Josh and Dwyer, Bebe Thomas...would be three that come to mind....Roddy Jones might be another.
12:24
[Comment From John]
How would you feel playing a team such as UT in a bowl game?
12:25
Paul Johnson: I think anytime you reach a bowl game your excited no matter who you play...
12:25
[Comment From Gary]
With the K-State addition we are about full of good teams to play, who would you like to add in the West or SW for experience and exposure?
12:25
Paul Johnson: I don't know....Schedules are made so far in advance all that is done by someone else.
12:25
[Comment From Craig]
Who is the fastest guys on offense/defense? What freshman are you most looking forward to seeing when camp opens?
12:26
Paul Johnson: Fastest on Defense is Cooper Taylor in a 40 yard dash....On offense Peeples or Marcus Wright...For freshman we see them all year now, its not like it used to be we watch them work out in the summer....
12:26
[Comment From Kevin]
How well are injured players from Spring progressing?
12:27
Paul Johnson: Its going well we think we should have most everyone back...Kyle Jackson is still suspect but we should have everyone else available.
12:30
[Comment From Doug]
In light of the sad news about Steve McNair, do you plan on having anyone come in to talk to the team about choices?
12:30
Paul Johnson: We usually try to cover as many situtations as possible with our players. We may not bring people in, but we do talk about it...that they are always in the spotlight
12:31
[Comment From Steve]
Coach, I know you wont mention names but do you think we lose any juniors to the draft next spring?
12:31
Paul Johnson: I think there is a good possibility that may happen we'll have to see how the season plays out.
12:31

[Comment From Rick Stevens]
Is GT focusing on instate recruiting? If so, what are the benefits of instate recruiting vs out of state recruiting?

12:32
Paul Johnson: Yes we are trying to focus in state, but we'll go outside to take outstanding players. There are a lot of great football players in the state of georgia and I hope it would help build our fan base and be more important in rivalry games. If you're from Georgia that game should mean more to you.

12:33
[Comment From Paul]
How much of a chance have you had to try and explain the difference between cut blocking and chop blocking to the ACC this off season?

12:33
Paul Johnson: I have a chance to do a presentation to the officials meeting in July. Im looking forward to having the chance to talk to them.

12:33
[Comment From Chris]

CPJ uses smileys! All of a sudden, I want to.

So annoying the people that ask questions just to ask a question. I feel like half the questions were things everyone has read 3 or 4 times. Either way it's really cool that he does stuff like that.

I'd be surprised to learn PJ can type, much less do smilie faces. Surely someone was typing for him.

Yeah, that was my inclination as well... Probably some AJC goon was with him transcribing his responses... I felt like the answers were a little terse. PJ is usually pretty media friendly when it comes to sound bytes and quotes and the like.

Oh come on, you're assuming all older people are computer illiterate.

Yeah, shouldnt refrigerator mover contradict such notions? Using him as comparative to PJ, who isn't entirely an older person yet though. Maybe cause I'm from Florida I see older as meaning either 60+ or you live in my state.

Oh come on, you're assuming all older people are computer illiterate.

Yes, but this was some live chat applet on AJC's site... It was probably easier for both parties if someone just transcribed rather than setting up some special account for CPJ for this one time use.

[Comment From Carlos]
Coach, when are you going to begin Tweeting?

Paul Johnson: Not any time soon

:laugher:

Yeah, shouldnt refrigerator mover contradict such notions?

I type all John's Stingtalk posts for him. He sends me hand written notes including what he wants to say, via carrier pigeon.

Paul Johnson put on a Michael Jackson costume and wrote Thriller. This is why it is the no. 1 selling album of all time.

so CPJ DOESN'T use smilies...

i retract my previous use of a smiley in light of this new evidence.
