Whiteout 2009- Clemson (September 10th)

The athletics department and Dan Radakovich have deemed our 2009 matchup with the Clemson Tigers on September 10th our official "Whiteout" game (disregard the title back on the main page, which says "September 5th"... it's the 10th). Last year's whiteout vs. Miami resulted in a 41-23 beatdown with our Jackets tied for first in the Coastal Division. Unfortunately, due to cold weather and late notification, mainly the endzones were whited out while the East and West stands were speckled.

This year will be different... it's gonna be warm, and it's more than a month away.

For those of you who think its a shabby gimmick and say that "Georgia blacked-out Alabama last year, and we saw what happened", that's just one example. Virginia Tech's fanbase is so disciplined they pick a color for EVERY game. Penn State whites out for almost all of their home games, and Clemson goes all-orange (GT/Clemson 2008) or all-purple (GT/Clemson 2006).

It's not a gimmick. The players said they loved the whiteout, and they picked Clemson for this year. Wearing white will show support for your team, something Georgia Tech MUST begin to do more of!

So wear a white shirt, or wear no shirt and let that farmer's tan glow. It doesn't matter, as long as you show support for GT!

NO EXCUSES! BUY TICKETS! WEAR WHITE!
GO JACKETS!

You're right, this year will be different; there will be even less white, because there will be about 30% Clemson fans.

I'll wear white(I love the idea of a white-out), but it doesn't take a genius to see that this is going to fail pretty badly.

Yeah, you're right... Clemson and Georgia draw the highest amount of visitors, but if you think about it, the only real options are VT, CU, and UGA, and VT travels VERY well, so CU is a good one in order to get off on the right foot.... but lets hope the camera angles dont show the upper levels :fingersx:

I'm wearing white and my family will be as well. If this is something the players and GT want I will do my best to support it. We need to make sure white shirts are being handed out again.

If I remember correctly, the players thought this was one of the coolest things ever. If this is true, then EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU better do it. I know I will. Despite the cold last year, it worked out well. I think it will be even better this year.

:laugher: Maybe Clemson changed their motto to "SOLID WHITE." Then it will work out even better than last year.

Isn't the Clemson on September 10 instead? I think the first game vs. Jacksonville State is on Sept. 5.

Much larger advertising campaigns need to occur in order to really white out the campus.

Shoot, try to get each brother in the Greek community to donate a white tshirt or two to hand out at the games maybe in case people forget?

:laugher: All they need to do is tell Spiller to wear white and all of the sudden everyone up there will do it. Anyone able to contact him so he can make the announcement? In CJ Spiller we trust. I hear he just won the preseason Heisman. He might want to talk to UGAg about preseason awards.

+1 That might not be a bad idea getting someone to buy a bunch of t-shirts, and then getting people standing at the gates handing them to people not already wearing white.

The key is getting the alumni. The students showed up last white out. The alumni, unfortunately, did not.

Hell, the AA can get someone like Coke or Chick-Fila to put their logos on the shirt. Why there isn't white t-shirts and white shakers being handed out by the AA is confounding. You should do your part, and ridicule any Tony Yetman's mercilessly if they're not wearing white.

Actually I was pleasantly surprised by the alumni last year; there was a pretty good amount of white among them, especially at the start. The real issues were that as the game went on it got colder and the white disappeared(won't be a problem this time) and that Miami traveled far better than I would have expected(will be a bigger problem this time.)

I agree the weather had something to do with it. I also think it depended on where you were sitting. I sat on the east side. From my view, I saw the west side, and the two end zones. The two end zones looked great (I assumed that to be the students) and the west side looked ok--the closer to the field the better. From that, I assume the cheaper, higher seats, which are the kinds visiting fans pick up from scalpers, were the ones that were less "white."

Wow... I don't know what was going through my head at the time. Thanks for catching that! I cleared it up

YES! The players DID say it was amazing to have that atmosphere, and the players DID say that they wanted this to be a white-out! DO IT FOR THEM! Do it for Tech!

Yes, both end zones are the student section. SGA was passing out free white t-shirts to students during the day.

the weather excuse is a joke. who doesnt have a white sweatshirt or hoody, or cant go get one.

or wear whatever jacket you want, go spend $5 for a long sleeve Tshirt sized way too big and put it on top of your other clothes.

its not a beauty contest, its a football RIVALRY
