Why do people get angry at predictions, especially when they are reasonable? Oh no! She mixed up the #1 and #2 vote getters! I don't think she meant any great offense to Dwyer.

Because she is freaking obsessed with Spiller. She voted him ahead of Dwyer as #1 in the ACC, and said she'd vote for Spiller.

Wait. So if you think that the best player in the country should also be the preseason POTY, that means you are obsessed with said player? Should she have split the votes so as to not appear obsessed? Spiller as the best player in the ACC, but Dwyer as the preseason POTY?

As for the Preseason Player of the Year? Hey, you can't go wrong with Dwyer. He's a remarkable player who is sure to wow college football fans again this season. To me, the more interesting number is the lone vote Tyrod Taylor got. This is a team expected to contend for a national title, and the quarterback gets one vote? That seems to reiterate the belief that Taylor still has something to prove.

I'm happy with Dwyer getting some pre-season recognition.

But when you think about it:

Georgia Tech b-back Jonathan Dwyer was voted the ACC's preseason player of the year by the media on Monday.

"preseason player of the year" --I'm not sure I even know what that means. You are the player of the year before the year has started. Again, no knock on Dwyer, but the whole premise of naming someone preseason anything doesn't mean all that much to me.
 
Pre-season awards are like polls in the beginning of the year. They're worthless. The worst thing about this type of hype is the media hates being wrong, and has hard time accepting otherwise. Wasn't Auburn still ranked in the top 25 with a 2-3 record last year? One of those wins was 3-2 against MSU. Last years Clemson made the whole ACC suck an egg, just because they were the media darling. Turned out they weren't even better than half the teams in ACC. At least the ACC championship is decided on the field.
 
I think the value is for folks who don't follow Tech or the ACC to know who to keep an eye on.

Can't hurt - esp if we decide to hype him for the Heisman. Name recognition counts for a lot.

I wouldn't know who in the PAC 10 to keep an eye on but for a similar preseason mention.
