CPJ interview on ESPN

Meh, nothing new. I wish he'd be more confident in winning though, and call out those who say his offense has been figured out.

I'm sure he isn't calling anyone out because he doesn't want to sound like a prick. He has also stated before that there is no magical way to stop the offense. Football season just needs to start...

I wish they'd post the text of the interview so I don't have to watch a video.

He probably tells his players something much different to build their confidence away from the media. As long as he's got his players stoked that's all I care about.

Not sure if this is the same interview (didn't watch the video on ESPN), but he has some good nuggets in this AJC article, although we have heard these or variations of these responses many times before:

"As has been the theme of the offseason, Johnson was asked repeatedly and in various ways if the 38-3 loss to LSU in the Chick-fil-A bowl gave opponents a blueprint on how to stop Tech’s offense.

His answer: when a team that runs a pro-style offense gets shut out, does that become the blueprint on how to stop the pro offense? Will the team with the pro-style offense never score again?

He said giving up 21 points in the second quarter on special teams errors is what beat the Jackets that night.

Johnson also parried questions about how facing the same teams again might breed success against his offense. He said if that were true, then Army-Navy would always end 0-0."

Wow. Nothing groundbreaking, but consider this: when was Chan EVER interviewed by ESPN?

He's probably just as sick and weary of it being offseason/July and getting the same questions asked of him 2-3 times a week.

Lotsa times. They just never showed it because no one who watched it could stay awake long enough to air it.

I observed something that no one has mentioned yet on this thread. Did you notice how he didn't crap on the Army v. Navy rivalry when asked about the differences between UGA vs. GT and Army vs. Navy. Coaches like Urban Meyer would have said something like, "oh, well the SEC is the almighty most powerful thing on the planet earth, so each game at Florida is more intense than the most important rivalry game at Utah." But instead of trashing the Army - Navy rivalry, Johnson said that they were both big games and each school has their own big rivalry game that is important for players and alumni. This is just another example of the character of Paul Johnson. He remembers where he came from and never burns his bridges.

2-3 times a week? Try 2-3 times a day at least. That to me is the most frustrating part of being a coach. I dont think I could deal with the idiotic media and all the repetitive stupid questions.

I don't think anyone would trash Army-Navy, not even Nick Saban or Steve Spurrier. That's a special game, and everyone knows it.

He actually dodged his real opinions on the ESPN interview. He told the 790 morning show a couple months back that the Army Navy rivalry was bigger than the UGA/GT rivalry in his opinion, because of the nature of those two programs, and the nature of the academies. He told some anecdotes as well, that made it pretty hard to argue otherwise.

While it had good information that article was just painful to read. There were so many typos it was very distracting. Someone should tell Doug Roberson to proof read his stuff before posting.

I think most GT fans could agree or at least respect that opinion.
