CFN Preseason 21st

Why is quarterback listed as a weakness? Oh yea, because most media outlets don't do anything other then look at the stat sheet and see low passing numbers. That must mean a sub-par quarterback. In reality, we've got a perfect option QB. Same with their listing of receiver as a weakness.

I can't put much faith in a list that has Miami one spot below us, especially after their stellar season last year.

I remember CFN ranked us #5 in the country one year. I think 2006 or 2007. They've usually been pretty high on us.

I would have put this...
Relative Strengths: Running Back, Secondary
Relative Weaknesses: Offensive line, Defensive line

I would put receiver as a relative weakness. Bebe is a great blocker and a solid receiver, but but who behind him is proven? We might have some solid backups, but until they show it on the field they are a concern.

Josh is a great option QB, but he is was out for three games last year (and two spring practices). He also hasn't shown a lot of touch on his passes when under (massive) pressure. I can see him listed as a weakness. But if they wanted to be more accurate, they would have listed the Oline as a weakness. Those guys caused about 90% of Josh's passing problems last year.

It may not be Josh they are listing as weakness, it may be the poistion. Josh is still somewhat unproven and you pointed out he is not always on the field. After Josh, what do we have? Jaybo and Tevin again, from the media's perspective basically unknown. At wide receiver CFN doesn't even have Stephen Hill listed on the two deep. I can't argue that we definitely have something to prove to most of the football world. Like CPJ says, you want respect you have to take it.

Jaybo is far more proven than most teams' backup QB's. He effectively started two games and for a true frosh he played very well in 2008. Hell, he's more proven than a lot of starting QB's (Cox and McElroy for starters).

To me their analysis is clueless. Our biggest relative strengths are RB and DB, and our biggest relative weaknesses are DL and K/P. They don't mention three of the four.
