Well, the gagers do have a lot of talent. Nothing new.
What is new, and perhaps a concern, is their off season was not full of arrests.
There is always a debate in my head as to whether I want uga to lose every game because I despise them, or whether I want to them to win out prior to playing us because when we beat them it will make us look that much better.
This year I would like to see them miss out on a bowl game.

They have a lot of talent based of scout rankings*
We only have those pathetic 2 and three star kids like Cooper, Griffin, and Roddy Jones. Unfortunately while they have "talent" like Caleb King, we were "stuck" with Dwyer...if we could only get 5 star commits...
Last time I saw LSU play they seemed more on the UP side.
UGA could be a top team this year. They are still loaded with talent and their offensive line returns (plus). Sure their skill players on offense are unknowns but they are still very talented.
That word sir, is why I really do not like them at a top 5 ranking. That high up they don't have to beat a higher ranked team to go the national championship game, they just have to not lose. Loaded with talent is fine and all but teams like Miami teach us that being "loaded with talent" can only get you so far. Now I'm not say that Richt is Randy Shannon but you get the idea.
Someone said "well who do we put in front of them?".
Well Alabama is one (which you mentioned). Even though I don't think they're as high either but I'd put VT over UGA in rank. Also I have to say Oklahoma St.
If they aren't deserving of a high ranking then how can we hope to be right now? They're getting attention because a powerful offense returns lots of skill players (sound familiar?) and one of their main questions is if they'll have a good enough defense to not make every game a shootout (which more than on person on this board has suggested of us).
Either Virginia Tech or Bama will be 0-1 to start the season. So, it seems that you would agree that if UGA beats Okla St on the road, UGA could reasonably be ranked as high as #6 in week 2 polls. If UGA beats Ok St soundly and one of the other Top 5 teams has an awful performance against a poor team, UGA could reasonably be ranked in the top 5. It's therefore not unreasonable to put them preseason #5 or #6 if you project them to beat Okla St. Based on my lifetime experience of watching football, I am unfortunately about 85% sure that UGA will beat Okla St. Any odds mavens care to project what the line will be in the UGA @ Ok St game? I'm thinking Okla St -1.5 or something like that. I will be so happy if I am wrong, but I think the Dawgs will win by 10.
I'm not going to throw stones at a publication that generally favors Tech.

Most importantly, look at who they play:
Auburn, DOWN right now.
USCe, DOWN right now.
TENN, DOWN right now.
KY, stinks.
Vandy, UP but had their big year last year.
ARK, DOWN right now.
ASU, DOWN right now.
LSU, Unknown but they play in Athens.
OSU, Let's be honest. They are a notch below UGA and are really an unknown but could be tough in Ok.
UF, UP right now.
GT, UP right now.
The point is that UGA is an up program right now and they play so many teams that are down and get LSU at home. They could easily go 9-3, and with one win over UF, LSU, GT could go 10-2.
...your close certainty of an UGA win there I find discouraging...
