Is the coaching bad?

Defense is vastly improved (and getting better), but the Offense and Coach Key have dropped off dramatically.

Typical Tech Curse (TM) of never having a good offense and defense at the same time.
I didn’t realize Coach Key wasn’t the coach of the whole thing? He made decisions to make the defense better and it has. The special teams coordinator is suspended and the special teams played better.

Offense regressed but we are hurt.

I'll say this- It makes sense now that we haven't had much of a vertical threat this season due Haynes being banged up. If Philo comes in against Miami and balls out, I'll shut up about Faulkner, at least for a little while until I see some real adjustments and some creativity on offense!

Creativity is the key word there. I haven't seen any creativity other than absurd plays like the razzle dazzle play in (I think) the L'vile game, which was doomed to fail from the getgo.

I think Brent wants to be a smash-mouth, run between the tackles guy and has dictated that to BF a bit. But also, the passing threats have been severely hampered this season. Also, we have a ton of guys banged up at RB and TE, to go along with QB.

How come when our offense is awesome, our defense sucks and when our defense finally gets good, our offense sucks.

This is Georgia Tech, where we can't have nice things.
LOL, how long have you been a Tech fan? There have been some electric offenses at GT (1990's and some of PJ years) and then also some great defenses (mid 2000's with Gailey and Tenuta). Not sure why we can't have both at the same time. 1990 was the Best of Both Worlds (enter Van Halen song) but that team was special.

I really don't have an answer other than it's tough to consistently get great players to come here, at least in the past. I believe NIL and the portal is changing that and we should benefit from it.

That's fine but it doesn't explain bubble screens and screwball razzle-dazzle plays in the backfield. Move, or try to move, the ball down the field. Get it out of the backfield. A truly effective between the tackles game requires a consistently effective line, and big bruising RB. The line is not consistent, and we definitely don't (yet) have that big bruising RB.

Right now, against FBS level competition, the offense is averaging just under 24 points per game.
Last year, it had one game where we scored fewer than 23 points per game - we hit the 23 mark four different times.
we had two 40-point outings last year. This year, we have one 40 and one other game where we cracked 30. So far.

Really begs the question wtf is going on

I've never believed how the PFF could employ enough people to accurately evaluate every player/every game but when do see the grades of our OL, they generally align with my one eyes. If there is a coach that Key should get after it's Geep.

It’s Key’s responsibility to call appropriate timeouts and manage the game. He has struggled often with that this year.

What if our two backup QB games are taken out of the comparison, I wonder?
