Q: You're a BCS coach. One team you don't want to face this fall (not including defending national champion Florida)?

Hayes: Georgia Tech. Good luck to any defense/defensive coordinator that hasn't had either a full offseason or a full month before a bowl to prepare for the triple option-based offense.

Tech embarassed numerous teams last fall when the entire personnel--from the line, to the quarterback, to the running backs-- didn't really get the intricacies and nuances of the scheme. As good as fullback Jonathan Dwyer was last season, wait and see how many more big runs he breaks this fall.

Why, you ask? Because quarterback Josh Nesbitt has a better understanding of the offense, and because at 6-1, 220 pounds, he's like a tailback running the offesne. Then there's wingbacks Roddy Jones and Louisville transfer Anthony Allen, two more legitimate threats in the backfield to force defenders to choose between four dangerous options.

Matt Hayes. In another squib, he implies that the only team Miami can't beat (out of VT, GT, FSU, and Oklahoma) in their first four games is us.

Yeah; I'm afraid that anyone implying that we are tougher to beat than Oklahoma is probably not that credible.

This is the first time someone has mentioned Josh as a dangerous running threat. I've been saying it all along and nobody jumps in. Mark my words, he'll have monster rushing numbers this year, especially with defenses keying on JD and the pitch.

Watching the games (and subsequently the replays) it was evident on many occasions that if Josh would have made the correct read he would have had a big gain or possibly a TD.

I, too, think he is in for a big year. I think that an average of 100 yards rushing and 150 yards passing for Josh is very realistic if he stays healthy. This could be an epic offensive year for us if we stay healthy and our line gets it done.

I honestly and seriously never thought I see the day in my lifetime that we had a more potent offense than we had under the Fridge.

I've never been so happy about being so wrong.

:woot:

I'm worried about health more then anything. We're plenty deep in the backfield, but it's a big drop off in terms of talent after Josh. Hopefully, he'll only be playing the first half of most games.

I don't get why Taylor @ VT is getting made out to be the next Vick, while Nesbitt gets overlooked and downplayed. Most are going to be very surprised by his play this year.

I've asked this same question a number of times. People in the ESPN/SI/sports media are drinking hard on the VPISU kool-aid, to the point where the team that got the upper hand in the 2009 FedEx Pillow Fight Bowl is being annointed as an MNC candidate. VPISU is going to be the 2009 model of last year's Clemson.

VT could win a national championship with Reggie Ball, because they win on trash.

Why in the world would you hope so? Clemson last year absolutely killed the ACC as a conference. You want your conference to look as good as possible.

I want us to kick VT's ass while they are at the top. I hope they come into Bobby Dodd undeafeted and a top five ranking.

Here's why: If Va Tech gets humiliated and fires Frank Beamer and hires some glorified cheerleader to be a head coach like Clemson did, that immensely improves our chances of winning the ACC for years down the road. We can make up for it by beating the SEC champ in the BCSCG.

Having said that, I do see your point and I will be cheering for Va Tech to beat Bama, and I almost always cheer for ACC football teams out of conference. Furthermore, I admit that the ideal scenario is that the ACC is the #1 conference in the land and we emerge as the cream of the crop. But, taking all things into consideration, I am all for any ACC team having an implode season. Bring it on, any team, any time.

  1. Nesbitt passed for very few yards compared to most QBs.
  2. He was injured for a few games and slowed for a few others.
  3. He was learning a new offense.
He won't be overlooked long.

Dear god no, that'd be horrible. Then we'd never get rid of Bud Foster.

All we need to have happen to VT is for Bud to get a HC job someplace. Beamer's not the brains over there, Bud is.
