Here's why: If Va Tech gets humiliated and fires Frank Beamer and hires some glorified cheerleader to be a head coach like Clemson did, that immensely improves our chances of winning the ACC for years down the road. We can make up for it by beating the SEC champ in the BCSCG.

Having said that, I do see your point and I will be cheering for Va Tech to beat Bama, and I almost always cheer for ACC football teams out of conference. Furthermore, I admit that the ideal scenario is that the ACC is the #1 conference in the land and we emerge as the cream of the crop. But, taking all things into consideration, I am all for any ACC team having an implode season. Bring it on, any team, any time.

If the ACC doesn't do well it really hurts GT. It's odvious that you don't see it that way, and that's cool.

Don't have time to help you figure it out on a message board. Maybe we can have a cold drink tailgating have a chat over this one.

Just from a $ stand point it's so important. We wouldn't be able to exist in big time college football without the shared rev. from the networks and bowls. Takes success to make that $ happen!

I gotcha. I just want Tech's chances of winning games maximized. If I assume that we will win, then yes, of course I want the teams we beat to be great teams.

The great thing is that unlike years past, I actually believe the following statement for 2009: If our team plays to its potential (or reasonably close to it), we will win the ACC regardless of whether any other team implodes.

If I remember correctly, even despite that bogus call against Cooper Taylor for the late hit against VT, if Nesbitt would have hit a wide open, streaking Roddy Jones at the end of that game, Tech would have still won (in its third game under PJ). I know this is a huge what-if, but think how that would have changed the projections/prognostications for this year. GT would have played an average Cincinnati team in the Orange bowl (if they won the ACCCG) and VT would probably be ranked around #22 right now rather than 5.

This year, among other improvements, I think Nesbitt hits that pass.

I'll assume the Cap'n Obvious role and point out that we had some mighty big plays without which we'd have lost some games too. FSU, Clemson, Gardner-Webb, BC, UGA, UGA, UGA . . .

I honestly and seriously never thought I see the day in my lifetime that we had a more potent offense than we had under the Fridge.

While I'm excited about our prospects, the Tech teams under Freidgen, and in particluar Hamiltons last 2 years were ridiculous. If we could play an ounce of defense those years, we would have won back to back national championships. It was like watching Nintendo football. Last guy with the ball wins. I hope we get to that point, but in my opinion, we're gonna have to significantly improve our passing game to be as stout as Joe's last years at Tech.
