Jaybo with broken collarbone

Optimistically speaking, Josh could stay healthy all season and Tevin could become a greater backup than Jaybo.

(knock on wood)

Let's hope so. I'm pretty sure some of the teams will be dirtier this year though.

it is unrealistic to think Nesbitt will not get banged up. IMO I REALLY HOPE Jaybo can come back this year.

Very bad news. Jaybo was an effective backup QB for our offense. He will be missed. We don't want to see any repeats of Gardner-Webb last year where the offense simply isn't working at all.

What we don't need is for us to try to protect Josh. Our offense requires a fearless QB, willing to take a hit on the option. If your QB speeds up his decisions on the option to avoid the big hit coming from an end or LB, the offense becomes much easier to defend.

Redshirts are assigned at the end of the season. If he recovers and is in shape enough to play, they may do so later on in the season. We only went 3-deep once last year, and possibly could have done w/o that if we were desperate. We should be fine with 2 QB's and Sims, who will get a lot of reps now.

If the 4th quarter of that game wasn't "desperate" I'm not sure what is.

You bring up a good point. This would be a bigger problem if it happened in 3 weeks. The backups get a new sense of urgency to prepare for the season, knowing that they could see playing time soon. They get 3 weeks to prepare and will likely get more action against Jacksonville St.

Ugh.

I would much rather see Washington this year than Jaybo even if Jaybo heals up, based on this new info. I broke my left clavicle in a car wreck a while back, and broke it again later wrestling a guy. In my entirely non-medically trained opinion, once you've broken it once you're more likely to break it again later. I'd like to see Jaybo put a year's worth of meat around that bone in the weight room before he sees a hostile tackle again.

How much did he weigh last year compared to this year?

Looks like Sims will be thrown to the fire. Luallen has been hurt, so Sims will have at least a 2 week reps advantage. We need 3 ready to go at all times.
This sucks for Jaybo. He wasn't the biggest or fastest, but he was stellar for a true freshman last season. I think a lot of Tech fans sell him short. He may not have the most potential, but he saved our butts in the Dook and Miss St games.

I suspect that 2009 Sims > 2008 Jaybo.

And since 2009 Nesbitt > 2008 Nesbitt, we're still improved at QB even with this injury.

So that's the silver lining, if there is one, but this still sucks. Woulda been nice to have a back up with real experience.

No way. Jaybo ran this offense in high school. This is Sims' 4th week practicing it.

I'm telling you washington is the real deal. IMO he's shown a lot in the offseason and thus far. He's physically better and will be a better QB than Shaw. I really thought that Had Shaw not had a year on him the 2 spot wouldve been his already. No need to panic yet...we've lost our # 2 or quite possibly the #3 by the end of it all.

We'll be fine.

Well, how about

2009 Nesbitt > 2008 Nesbitt
2009 Washington > 2008 Shaw
2009 Sims > 2008 everyone else

?

Sims is no where near game ready. If you've been to practice any you can see that. He has a ton of talent and can be a great QB. But he has to learn the offense and improve his passing first. Luallen would have been where Shaw was at this time last year but he got hurt. Luallen would be our best bet at third string.

I think that this is a valid comparison, and I would add that once Jordan gets back he is in the mix as well as a third option, though at this point he is missing practice time.

If we did have to go to a third option, I believe that we would be in better shape than what we saw in the GW game last year.

But that also depends on the timing of when the third option would be needed, we happened to barely squeak by GW. If we were down to a third option against an opponent like VT or FSU that will be a different story most likely.

Brainfart, I meant Washington not Sims. My error.

I've seen Flowery Branch play, and they're not really our offense. Half their snaps are from shotgun and they run a lot of very different plays from us. They do *some* of the same things we do, but Washington ran spread option in high school as well.

This is sorta what I meant.

If GT is down to a third string QB against a good team, they should forfeit to avoid embarassment. GW was terrible. I made a three hour drive for that:o
