CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Running back Graig Cooper is Miami's newest injury concern.
Cooper missed the Hurricanes' practice Tuesday morning with an apparent lower right leg injury. He was wearing a protective boot.
The severity was not immediately clear.
The junior has been Miami's leading rusher in each of his first two seasons. He ran for 841 yards last year and scored touchdowns four ways -- rushing, receiving, passing and returning.
Miami has seen injuries slowly pile up during camp. Defensive end Adewale Ojomo may miss Week 1 at Florida State following an injury suffered "horsing around" in the locker room, and several other players have had minor issues.

Why is everyone talking Miami up ? Losing Nix was a step up, but there are many people thinking this is a break out year for the Uthugs. What am I missing ?

Every year is the year they will be back. Everyone knows this.
 
I think Notre Dame knows that they'll never go back to being elite under Weis, at least not right away. They've had quite a few years to see him squander top-flight recruits.

Miami, on the other hand, remains convinced that Randy Shannon is the best or second-best coach in the ACC, as opposed to worst or second-worst. Their fans "see the signs" of an imminent explosion into prominence. I don't know what signs they're talking about, so I assume they got them from a ouija board.
 
They are probably just being cautious. There is a huge difference between being held out of preseason practice and being held out of a game.

Shannon is probably a helluva salesman.
 
For the last few years the UM fans I know have been bragging about the recruiting success there. I don't really follow recruiting that much, but if these great new players don't turn things around soon, the fans will come down hard on Shannon. This could be a crucial year for him.
 
You can bet that if he has an injured ankle, FSU will be doing plenty of twisting ankle tackles and wrenching his leg at the bottom of the pile.
