A friend of mine tried to get them today and apparently they are sold out. Sweet! (for the program, not so much for the friend or my block.)

200k in unbudgeted revenue for the AA is a good thing.

Almost certain higher ticket costs for next year are an unfortunate truth for current students, but is a good thing for the program long term.

Now let's just hope that the actual execution of the policy isn't as terrible as it sounds like it could be.

Why do you think higher ticket costs are almost certain?
I mean they just raised the price $36...

I'm wondering how the general admission tickets will work. I really hope the entire south endzone isn't mostly empty for some games.

For one there's the inertia component where people who pay for season football tickets as a student are more likely to pay for season tickets after graduating. If you're used to doing one thing, you're less likely to stop. I wouldn't be surprised to see more tickets move to reserved next year. They were only expecting about 4000 people to take advantage of this offer. Selling out 6000, and doing it early, is a huge win for the AA.

Secondly, supply and demand. If you can charge $36 and sell out early, why wouldn't you charge $45? There are a lot of good things they can do for the program with the extra money. Besides, lots of schools still charge a lot more and in some cases you aren't even buying a full season, but a pack of 3 games that gets assigned randomly; so you can't deny that the demand can be there.

Yeah, I agree, but $9 x 6000 = $54,000. That's not a whole lot of extra cash in the overall scheme of things. But it is more. They may can hire another full-time ticket sales engineer for that.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if I remember correctly, alot of stingtalkers were opposed to the new ticket system. What I am seeing now is that the alumni are loving the system whereas the students are absolutely loathing it. Many students feel as though they are getting skrewed, especially the fraternities. I just find this a bit interesting.

Of course they feel that way, they used to have the first 500-1000 tickets locked up for themselves because, from everything I've seen here, they had the organization and resources (of the human sort) to camp out real early. It also helped that the ticket offices bordered the fraternity area.
From what I've heard the students feel that way cause they are paying money. I also know a few people who go to other colleges with bigger name programs. They have to pay A LOT more to get guaranteed tickets to games.

I have no problem paying for tickets, especially such a small amount as $36. I got online and joined the Swarm 5 minutes after my time slot opened, and a friend of mine was able to do the same a day and a half after his time slot opened. Student tickets may be sold out, but there was ample opportunity to get one in my opinion. I'd be interested to hear problems which other students have run into over the last week (outside of the $36 cost), but I'm pretty happy with it.

Go Jackets!

What sucks is that we have no idea how it's actually going to work (check ID picture? swipe? tap?) and the fact that guest passes have to be in the GA section, and the two people won't be able to even enter the same gate. So if I get a guest pass for a relative from out of town, I have to basically tell them where to go in a stadium they've never seen before, rather than be able to just go with them. That's just ridiculous.

That guest pass thing is bad, but the way to get in is same way as you get into North Ave or some campus buildings, where you wave your buzzcard in front of a scanner.

I'll be in the South! I got my reserved ticket in the north, but I hate sitting up there. South endzone is where it's at!

Because SGA will raise an incredibly loud ****-storm.

Oh boo hoo. They could still get their blocks, despite the fact that many of the tickets they'd previously get would go unused until the 2nd quarter. I'm not seeing what the problem is other than having to pay $36 per ticket, which given the operating budget of many fraternities is a drop in the bucket.

According to what I've read it will work based on RFID.

I don't like the way they did it. I think freshman should have first dibs on tickets. It's all part of the freshman experience...

Your ticket will be on your buzzcard so i guess you'll swipe it to be admitted. If your bought a ticket for a "guest", it also will be on your buzzcard, so your guest will need to enter with you.

2009 Georgia Tech Football Student Ticket Policy

I do like the use of the buzzcard because it better guarantees that it's a TECH student being admitted to the game and not a buddy that was stupid enough go to the cesspool. Now if we can get the other season ticket holders to not give their tickets away rather than coming to the game. Maybe the TechFund will help prevent that.

It also prevents alumni from using student tickets.

I talked to a friend in AA the other day and he indicated that it's not actually on the buzzcard but rather a separate card. If anyone has seen the student ticket cards from VT, I imagine that will be what they are like. They have a bar code, the name, the seat/section and a schedule. (I couldn't find a picture)

not saying your friend is wrong, but from the link i supplied earlier:
"A valid student Buzzcard is all that is required for admittance - there will be no actual ticket."
