I hate Georgia

Yeah, that Orange Bowl is a real spectacle. Did you know that last year 57,821 people showed up? The stadium capacity is only 76,500, so they got over 75% capacity! Talk about getting your program some respect.

Unless you're talking about going to the BCS national title game, which I hear you only get into by LOSING to U[sic]GA!

BCS games and Conference titles get your program national respect. The 14 million dollar bowl payout doesnt hurt either.

A BCS game does get you national respect, but it is diminished when you enter that game with a ranking outside the top 15 cause you lost your last regular season game. Given the general trend of the Big East the nation starts wondering why a BCS bowl game does not even involve a top 15 team.

The $14 million is distributed among the ACC teams every year. You get very little as a team for actually going to the the game. But yeah, I know that winning BCS games get you respect. I just get frustrated that the Orange Bowl sucks so much compared to every other BCS game.

Also I'm one of those "beat Georgia above all else" fans.

My point is I think as a fan base GT fans should shift the focus of the number one goal to beat georgia to number one goal win the ACC Championship. Thats what I am saying.

I think you're right. We are trying WAY TOO HARD to beat Georgia and not NEARLY hard enough to beat Duke, and I'm sick and tired of it. Because of your post, I have already written a letter to the publishers of that old-focus book and asked them to change the title to Clean, Old-Fashioned Fun. Now we need to get to work changing fight song lyrics, merchandise, and a hundred years of history.

Win.

A lot of GT fans feel that way. I think this tends to be another disconnect between alumni and sidewalk fans.

I suppose that could be the case. I can't even fathom someone saying they would throw away an opportunity at the national stage as a trade for a win over a school that you all say you are so superior to anyways.

I know that I, as a GSU student, would NEVER trade a win over App State for another national championship.

His point was that there is an obsession with Georgia. That's the only game that alot of fans care about. The Georgia game sold out to season ticket holders and there was a surplus of demand where alot of people couldnt even get one extra ticket. Conversely none of the other games are sold out, WHY? because tech fans only care about the Georgia game. The clemson game is in 2.5 weeks and isn't sold out out yet. Our biggest conference rival, a white out game, probably the most important game to our season this year and it isn't sold out. Put a Georgia and GT scrimmage game next Tuesday night at 10pm and it will be sold out in a few days.

But did 90% of your friends from high school go to App State? Do you have to live and work among people who are die hard fans of App State? Do fans of App State tend to be the opposite of everything you are? Do you feel slighted by the local paper's coverage of App State vs. GSU? Do you go out to games seven times every fall and sing two fight songs about your hatred of App State?

I did say that National Championship took priority. Orange Bowl? Not so much.

Its just fan's opinions. They don't effect anything. PJ will have the players focused for every game and he has been quoted saying that UGA was "just another game". As long as he considers EVERY game a life or death situation (which I think he does) then I don't care.

Gth,

You forgot:

Do you have to go into the sporting good store and request they carry some GSU stuff, despite there being 4 aisles of App State stuff there? Do you like that the radio sports talk shows spend 5 hours on App State and maybe 1 hour at most on GSU?

Secondly, we are not saying trading a win over UGAg for a Natl Championship. We are saying we would take a win over UGAg plus a trip to non-Jan 1st bowl over a loss to UGAg and a trip to a BCS bowl to play a Big East team.

This probably isn't exactly what you want but is enjoyable nonetheless:

Nicely done Mr. D.

And the good thing is that we can't get a National Championship without beating U[sic]GA so we'll never have to choose. We can just have them both!

Your interpretation of his point departs from what he said, which is that all Tech fans who care more about the UGA game than any other game need to shift their focus. The GTAA's problems with ticket sales are NOT caused by people focusing on Georgia too much. The Tech-UGA game is like other great rivalries in that it transcends the game itself, the season itself, the program itself. People who may not care as much as we all do year-round will make an effort to tune in to games like Tech/UGA, Michigan/Ohio St, Auburn/AL etc. If anything, we need to create MORE focus on the Tech/UGA game. It's the same with other big rivalries, it's part of College Football, and it's without question a good thing. Making people care less about the UGA game is not going to make them care more about the other games. This is bad reasoning.

No. They did not.

No. I do not. If you are an engineer, and as superior to them as I've been told, you don't either.

Yes, they do.

I'd say slighted by the non-coverage of GSU ANYTHING in the media.

Yes, we do have to request GSU stuff.

Of course I HATE that, and this is a fact that it happens in regards to SoCon media, because ASU is the only FCS team that most people think about.

Tech fans are fanatical about 1 game. We should be fanatical about all 12. What good would creating more focus on the Georgia game do?

If you create more focus on the rest of the we might sell out more than 1 game a year.

Of course I agree that it would be better to sell out the other games. What I'm saying is that deemphasizing the UGA game won't accomplish that and really has nothing to do with selling tickets. We just need more interest in the program generally. You can't expect people to get up for the Duke game like they do for the UGA game. That's unrealistic and, frankly, would be emotionally exhausting. Let me put it to you this way: People who believe that I should care as much about every game on the schedule as I care about the UGA game don't really comprehend how much I care about the UGA game and probably do not even care as much about the Duke game as I do anyway.

On November 29, 2008, there were two big games being played at the same time. One game was the Tech/GA game in Athens. The other game I'm talking about was UVA @ Virginia Tech. The Tech/UGA game had NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER on the ACC Championship race whereas Georgia Tech's hopes of winning the ACC hinged on the other game. Are you saying that I should have cared more on that day about the UVA @ VT game than the Tech @ UGA game?

This is completely off the point. We are not comparing games that do not involve GT to the GT vs UGA game no matter how more pivotal they are in the ACC race.

It's squarely and 100% on the point. If you cared more about Tech winning the ACC than beating UGA, why would you care more about the UGA game than a game that determines whether we play in the ACCCG?
