"Scott Blair will no longer handle all of the kicking duties, according to Johnson. Blair will focus on kickoffs and field goals. Chandler Anderson will handle punting duties, but is being pushed by Sean Poole."

I don't know about you but this is a huge relief to me.

Blair can focus and improve on kickoffs and field goals while a better punter takes over punting.

This began the last week of open practice, and I think Blair nailed every field goal he tried that week. Not sure of the actual stats but it seemed promising.

Hopefully our new kicker can tackle as well as Scott Blair.

Jk. Although Blair did make a couple of huge tackles as a kicker last year, I think this change will be for the better.

I know I have said this multiple times...but I will say it again. The kicker is insignificant unless we can get the deep snapper position settled.

It looke like 3-yr starter Bret White will be replaced by Jeff Lentz as he has been more consistent than Tyler Morgan. However, we have more work to do.

Kickers do not just wait to see the snap down and kick...it is all timing and steps. The ball has to come back at the same speed, height, and in a tight spiral every time or it all blows up. It is harder than it looks and many take it for granted.

Very true. I second this. There is nothing worse than you being up 20-17 and you are kicking from your own 40 with 0:30 left and your deep snapper throws the ball over your punter's head. Deep snappers can win/lose games. It's just that no one notices them until they screw up.

This post instantly reminded me of Clemson in '04. Good memories.:D

I'm pretty sure those tackles were on kickoffs so Blair will still be there.
